anyone here checked out either Dawn Of War II or Empire Total War?

wanting to pick up one or the other, both got great reviews but i\'m looking for some first hand feedback.

Don\'t even know if there are any RTS players on this board or not heh.

I\'ll be getting Total War soon. Love those games.

Never played any dawn of war.

I\'ve been playing the total war demo all night and its only really one battle, but i gotta say its a lot of fun.

I don\'t have experience with either of these franchises =/ but Dawn Of War II also sounds like a lot of fun. I like loot, and leveling, and DoW apparently comes close to being a action rpg at times more than a rts.

Sadly the only DoW demo I can find was a multiplayer beta which isn\'t running anymore.

But the scale of Total War is pretty addicting. Its pretty cool sending in vast armies of dudes and having hundreds of people shoot and bayonett eachother.

Well i\'m gonna give Dawn Of War II a shot. Will surely have to pick up Empire Total War at some point tho. That demo is addicting.

I\'ll edit this post later on and let all of you (one of you) know how it is.

I love RTS games, but my PC is not up to modern gaming standards.  I still enjoy playing single player Red Alert series games.

I am currently playing Halo Wars on the X360.  It\'s fun, but it\'s a little like RTS Lite.

My buddy got Halo wars and I agree with your assessment. It felt like an action game a lot of the time. Or like an arcade mode of an RTS game. Still had fun with it tho.

Anyways after I got to EB to pick of DoWII I had a change of heart and got Empire Total War instead. Even with the limited features of the demo it was still too much fun to pass up. DoWII will be my next purchase because i\'m still really interested in that game. From what i\'ve read they said the campaign mode plays like an action RPG with RTS but the multiplayer mode is very strategic and tactical so that still sounds like fun to me.

The 1v1 online battles in Empire however can apparently take days to weeks sometimes to finish :O seems like a crazy version of Risk, never played that either tho. The will be my first time owning a game from this franchise so i\'ll probably stick to the single player campaign for a few weeks till I get the hang of it. Now i\'m gonna install this thing and help the yanks fend off the red coats :D

EDIT: 3 hours later and 70% done install >_< been reading that there are apparently some really crippling bugs in this game at the moment. This game apparently kicks the ass of a lot of PCs. Luckily mine is a beast so hopefully I don\'t have the same problems. *crosses fingers*

Well I played a fair bit last night. Performance wise, I had 1 CTD and 1 area of lag when it started raining. But it had rained before on a map and I didn\'t lag.

Overall the game itself is a lot more stable than the Steam forums were making it out to be.

The gameplay is awesome, but I fear it might be almost too easy at times. Then again i\'m very early into it but I hope I get some more difficult battles in the future.

At the moment i\'m George Washington and my army is so big that I all the battles i\'ve fought so far I outnumber the enemy from a couple hundred to a thousand.

But overall, after 1 day of play, it was money well spent.

Well everything was going so well...

Now I have a game file that crashes on my next turn no matter what. Nothing anyone can do except wait for a patch. Overall Empire is a great game...when it works.

Corrupted save files is unacceptable. Players are only making it to around 50 turns before their games start crashing. Very dissapointed. Should of got DoWII first and waited for Empire to be patched up =/

Ironically steam is having a sale on DoWII this weekend. 25% off and they are letting people try the demo. So i\'m gonna give that a whirl I guess and hopefully Empire will be fixed soon enough.
