MGS4 and KZ2 bundled with PS3

this alone breaks the argument that the ps3 is overpriced. If it was 300 bucks, which i think everyone would agree is a fair price, then youd be buying 100 bucks worth of games with these 2 games.

that is if you want these games. havent been in the mood for kz2\'s multiplayer for a while, but i havent been in the mood for any fps online

Rumours are saying the slim is coming in september, which hopefully leads to a price drop and the end of the constant price bitching.

Something like this would have been a good reason for me to buy a PS3 about a year ago (maybe not with those specific games).
 
Now all my friends have standardized on the Xbox, and we trade games with each other when we\'re finished with them.

Maybe next time sony won\'t try to add all of this latest and greatest technology that\'ll end up makin\' the system out of reach for most folks. These consoles are gaming consoles first,...that\'s something these idiots at sony and ms need to understand.

The dvd playback in the ps2 i\'ll admit was great, but i\'m thinking that the blu-ray playback in the ps3 wasn\'t worth the potential risk it\'s costing the ps3 in sales(after all the reason why the ps3 is so much is because of the blu-ray tech)...and blu-ray isn\'t taking off as some might\'ve thought...dvd\'s are still seeing comfortable sales and the quality difference isn\'t that dramatic as it was from vhs to dvd\'s.

financially, i dont think its smart to drop the price. what they need to do (and needed to do from the beginning) was offer a basic ps3 without some of the frills, especially the built-in wireless. probably easy for me to say since I dont use it though. but that still means i paid for something im not using and im sure a lot of people are the same

Not sure what else they can get rid of though. I love blu ray...so that stays. I bought the transformer dvd, watched it once and never wanted to see it after that...then i bought blu ray and have watched it 4ish times.

harddrive, usb plugs, hdmi you need. Cell processor, I have no idea about.

Their problem is marketing. KZ2 was a bit better with the commercials, but they had companies release reviews like a month before the game came out...by the time the game was out the release was lackluster

I think that it has to happen this way for gaming consoles. I know friends who use there xbox360 for everything. They don\'t need a tvo, dvd player or nothing. Having a blueray built right into your gaming station does not bother me.

The old times when the console was just a console are long and gone. Yes the price did hurt sony but I think it was other factors as well that hurt sony.

DVD playback on the PS2 sucked ass. There was quite a big number of movies that refused to play on the PS2, plus it was very bare boned.

DVD and BD playback on PS3 is very very impressive. Still one of the better Blu-Ray players out there and a excellent DVD player with great upscaling qualities (in a test it only lost to the most expensive DVD upscaling player).

Having BD playback was certainly worth the risk, Sony won the format war! Having a PS3 without BD would not have guaranteed higher sales, then the risk would have been loosing the HD format war and still placing 3rd with the PS3. You have to take some risks, and for Sony the risk of losing yet another format war would have been devastating, losing R&D money and a huge blow to the Sony brand.

Also, Blu-Ray was expensive at FIRST, when the production of the blue diodes was very limited. But we really dont know how expensive it is today. A Blu-Ray drive for PC really isnt that much more expensive than a DVD drive these days (talking readers). And outside the drive you wont see much other BD specific hardware as PS3 uses its CELL processor for decoding and all that other magic.

And you are wrong when it comes to BD sales. The sales are increasing while DVD sales are going down. Compare the formats at the same points in their lives and BD is kicking DVDs ass, aka. as a 2 year old format its selling better compared to when DVD was 2 years old.

And its not really like we PS3 owners are suffering. We still get all 3rd party multiplayer games, a huge pile of AAA quality 1st and 2nd party games.

Back in the GameCube era it was a different story. The GC lost out on quite a few 3rd party games, people were crying left and right for support and so on.

Hmmm...you guys do make some valid points. And truth be told, i have seen an increase in quantity of blu-ray movies on blockbuster shelves and in other stores,...so maybe at some point dvd\'s will be slowly phased out. Still sony shouldn\'t keep tryin\' to warrant that $399 price tag by bundling two (although very high end) quality games...the ps3 has been out what? over three years now and no true price drop?...that\'s insane.

Seriously i knew sony was going to be in trouble when they first announced that it was going to be $600 bucks....that price is crazy in any economy....and it didn\'t help that sony was extremely arrogant in thinking people was just going to go out and buy this thing because of the success of the ps2. So i can believe that blu-ray in the long run might be worth it, but my beef mostly with sony is that they haven\'t cut the price of this thing yet.

They cant drop the price if they have yet to make profit on each system sold. Horrible world economics wont allow it.

My guess is the drop will come with the slim version. Fewer steps in putting it together (by the looks of the leaked pics), perhaps 45nm components etc.

You think 599 was bad? I paid around 850 USD for mine. Stupid 25% VAT and price hike from the scandinavian distributor.
