PS2 memory card = fantastically overpriced.

I was thinking about getting a new one, since the two I have are nearly filled and I hate to delete. To my shock, the 8MB card still retails, new, for $25.

Physical memory is one of the most deflationary technologies in existence. How did this example buck what is otherwise a nearly-universal trend? An 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo can be had, brand new, for the same price. The PS2 Memory Card, therefore, is one thousand times more expensive, and that\'s not taking into account the larger form-factor and reduced capabilities.

This is, quite franking, disgusting.

Just be glad the PS3 took a completely different approach...

- standard harddrive
- USB ports on front
- Mini USB on controllers
- HDMI standard
- Optical standard
- Standard power plug with no external brick

Most of these things are proprietary on the 360 & Wii. If you lose one of those cables you have to pay up the ying yang now, much less than 5-10 years from now.
