GDC 10: Wakeboarding HD Hands-on

Quote
While much of Sony\'s GDC 2010 floor show booth was either PlayStation Move demos or already-released titles, there were a couple new games to check out, including Wakeboarding HD, a PlayStation Network release coming to us from Tik Games and Creat Studios.

Wakeboarding HD is an arcadey take on the sport where your goal is to rack up combo multipliers, find hidden collectables and generally show off your stunt skills as much as (in)humanly possible. If you\'ve ever played Wakeboarding Unleashed Featuring Shaun Murray, you\'ll have some idea of what\'s in store for you here.

The controls are simple - the left analog stick moves you, L2 and R2 cut into the water for tighter turns, and the face buttons perform four different jump stunts (various twists and such). If you\'re holding the analog stick to the side when you launch into the air, you\'ll spin while holding up or down upon takeoff will cause you to flip in that direction.

From what I can gather from my time with it, tricks are designated depending upon what button you used to launch or what direction you\'re holding when you do so. In other words, you won\'t be catching air and then pressing Square and Triangle in mid-air to perform stunts, so you\'ll need to know what you want to do before you start meeting up with birds.

As you\'d expect in this day and age, the boat that\'s pulling you leaves a nice wake in its path, and you can use the crests of the wake to catch some pretty good air. So, think of it as an always-moving stunt setup. There are also plenty of ramps and other launch-able objects scattered around levels for netting plenty of airtime, and you\'ll find rails for grinding as well.

The game\'s progression is handled via a large world map, where hotspots in what looks like a large resort represent individual levels. When you enter a level, you\'re given a series of tasks to try to complete, with one main challenge acting as what you\'ll need to complete to finish the challenge. In the level I played, the main goal was to acquire a 6x multiplier while sub-goals were to smash three rooftops and to keep a combo chain going for the entire level.

He has the power of both worlds
Girl: What power… beyond my expectations?
AND IT\'S PERSONAL
Demon: No… the legendary Sparda!?
Dante: You\'re right, but I\'m his son Dante!
