In the latest issue of Famitsu, Atlus has announced a brand new title for the PS3 and Xbox 360 called Catherine. The game is an adult/horror action adventure title. Key staff from the Persona series are working on this project including Katsura Hashino as the producer, Shigenori Soejima as the character designer, and Shouji Meguro will serve as the composer. The game follows 32-year-old Vincent, who has no ambition either in work or love. The other character, Catherine, is a stylish 22-year-old with the charms of a young girl. One day, VIncent runs into Catherine and then he ends up having nightmares. The nightmares will serve as the action/progress component throughout the game featuring an unending stairway. Vincent will have to make it to the top of the stairs in his nightmares or he won\'t awaken.Producer Katsura Hashino spoke in a staff interview saying since this was the team\'s first HD title they were excited to try something new instead of an RPG. He says this game will be more adult oriented than the team\'s past titles, and that there will be plenty of gameplay as well as some shockingly adult scenes. Composer Shouji Meguro pointed out that the game\'s music can be summarized in three key words: "classic," "adult oriented" and "erotic."One last interesting tidbit was a possible Persona 5 hint from Meguro. He says due to Catherine, the team can\'t be asked about their next title. Fortunately, some time next year he\'ll be able to respond "Regarding the RPG, Hashino and I are..."
Sounds interesting....anything survival horror, i\'m on it....:fro:
The company has said that Catherine will be a very "adult-oriented" game with a deep experiencing filled with lots of gameplay to keep people coming back for more. Atlus has also said that Catherine will allow the team to get a better feel of the next-gen architecture in order to enhance the upcoming Persona 5 that is speculated to be in simultaneous development.Catherine is currently 80% completed, and will be released in Japan this Winter on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. To learn more, check out the very sexy official website (completely with Catherine spread out on a bartop) here http://cathy.atlus.co.jp/. You are also free to check out the Media Vault section for more shots of Catherine, and take a look at the debut trailer for the game below showcasing Japanese rapping at its finest. If you watch closely enough, you\'ll notice an in-game sex scene.
Vincent isn\'t the only one suffering from these terrifying nightmares. It turns out that three of his guy friends are also having the same dreams. There is Johnny, Toby, and Orlando. All of which are friends with Vincent for many years and have a narrow-minded view on love and marriage. As for gameplay, you have witnessed Vincent running away from monsters in an odd world during the trailers, but now you can make sense of what is going on a bit more. According to Famitsu, the action part of the game will take place in this nightmare world were Vincent has to run from mysterious creatures. You\'ll have to avoid monsters, obstacles, and other obstructions to get by, but if you fall off the level or get captured by the monster, it\'s game over. The level design looks to be a mix of 2.5D and 3D.There will also be a phone email system in place, which was revealed in the last trailer. Emails will serve as a means to communicate with Katherine and Catherine, but Catherine is one to send "naughty" pictures to Vincent. How big of an impact this element will play remains to be known, but it could be interesting.
Closing CommentsAs if it wasn’t already obvious, I loved my time with Catherine. In many ways, I was completely blown-away by it. While I’m sure some gamers will be turned-off by its anime-style presentation and difficult gameplay, I implore those of you who are looking for something authentically different and outright fun to give Catherine a go. This isn’t a game just for puzzle fans or just for those who love anime. This is a game that melds so much together and is so different than anything else on the market that it’s for just about anyone who really loves games.
