US/PAL TTT vs Soul Calibur.
« on: December 12, 2000, 01:30:00 AM »
i know this has been done before, but i dont think it has since most people have had an opportunity to see ttt and ttt has had fsaa.

so....
Which game does everyone think has better graphics/gameplay?

i personally think ttt has slightly better graphics and gameplay is a tie.

TTT has better player models, and the backgrounds certainly look nice, although they are pre-rendered.

While I am a confessed Tekken fan (I use Jin, Lei and Ogre), I really see more in Soul Calibur\'s gameplay.

It is just so much more fluid, and it feels great to be able to do some spectacular stunts when I feel like it in SC and not get hammered with a huge juggle for it.

I mean, to me now, it feels like I wasn\'t even PLAYING tekken before, I was simply responding in a mechanical way to my opponent\'s actions.

Sure tekken is fun, but only while you and your opponents are the same level (very important) and to a lesser extent, while you are both somewhat unskilled.

Then you find your opponent pulls out a move you\'ve never seen and you spend 30 rounds trying to figure out how to counter it.

i know what you mean, and i think that is what i like about tekken.

its guess its like how some people prefer english to maths or vice versa. some people prefer being creative, while others like there to be a right or wrong answer.

i must admit once you learn all the moves and counters it does lose some of its single player appeal, but if you watch two very skilled players play each other its quite entertaining. each player knows exactly what to do in a situation.

Can u tell me HOW they are pre-rendered backgrounds.. There 3D man. Even though u can\'t reach them.. They have 3d movement too.. I donno. I always though Pre-rendered is like Resident Evil 1 backgrounds.. Just 2d flat pictures.

Still i think TTT has the Best models. While SC has the best effects... The gameplay is pretty even for me.

ResEvil backgrounds are all modeled 3D then rendered as
probably a tiff file and are placed in the game.
For TTT it is indeed 3D background ( some partially )
but it\'s still a shame they don\'t keep/locked up with
the plane you\'re fighting on.
BTW a week ago I got beaten with TTT 4 to 6 by someone who
was repeatedly pushing the o (highkick) button as fast as
possible; that\'s nasty about Tekken, Button mashers can
win.

That means there PRE-RENDERED. There already made. Then there just pictures stuck in the backgrounds. Then they add the 3d moving objects over it.. Eg people and objects like weapons etc.

Yea i agree. But they didn\'t want it as a whole new game. Its really just T3 with better graphics and tag mode.. Tekken4 will have interactive backgrounds. :D

High kick? there is no high kick. there is LK and RK.. But no high kick.. If you lose too a button masher.. Then u can\'t play. no offence.

I\'ve never lost too a button masher. I can time when too wipe there arses.. Most button mashers that are just using the 1 button have what they call a pattern.

Duhuhh Soulgrind,....
Yeah ,of course I meant right kick button, my mistake.
And also , when I got TTT on the 24th Nov. I was a Tekken newbie \'cause I had N64 before and all my buddies have PC or DC.
So I lost to an awefully fast buttonmasher and I accidently
called the right kick button the high kick button...
Big deal dude..

Gezz dood. How the hell was i ment too know what your talking about.. High kick wtf.

I don\'t mean too get you pissed dood. But u made a mistake on what button etc was being used. I just wanted too know what you were talking about. LK or RK or both.. You said 1 button. Hick kick isn\'t in tekken. You know that, But u still said it. So don\'t get pissed at me for pointing it out.

It doesn\'t matter if someone bashes the circle button 180 times per minute, the basic kick on most characters comes out quick, but the recovery time leaves them open for a hit. Or you can sidestep to your opponent\'s left side and punish them for the cheeziness. I\'ve fought against people like that. Even against people who bash all the buttons at the same time over and over again! They\'re dead on arrival :p

Exceptions : if he was using Lei then he goes for the falling low kick if rabidly tapping the RK button. And with Lee he makes a triple high kick and.. blaargh :p

I\'ve always been a huge Tekken fan and currently think TTT is the best fighing game I\'ve played. Calibur is pretty, yes, very, but not as pretty as TTT. And I find SC a bit too frantic for my tastes. It\'s good fun but I just prefer the Tekken gameplay :)

Soul Calibur. Even with these new fighters I still find myself longing for the cool sword-action of SC. In my opinion, SC beats TTT in every aspect. First of all, the characters: Sure, TTT has lots and lots of them! But SC has better ones. I mean personality-wise. There\'s so many characters in TTT that the \'storyline\' (I\'m pretty sure that there\'s not much of that left anymore in the Tekken series) is ignored. In SC every character has a story, and these stories come together in a novel-like fashion. And I simply cannot talk about Soul Calibur without mentioning the cutest babe in gaming history, Kilik. The game itself also looks beautiful (TTT does that too), and there are plenty of cool-looking moves. And the best part - weapons. I don\'t know why but it\'s nicer to beat the other characters up with a weapon.
So, SC for me, please.

I gotta agree with Hawke here ( sorry SmallLady :D); TTT is the best fighting game I\'ve played. I don\'t usually like beat-em-up games but Tekken really opened my eyes. And I have never enjoyed a B-E-U game more!

Well, I and my friends have played it a lot. Now I\'m just collecting money for multitap with 2 extra pads. TTT 4-player mode ( drooling over keyboard... duh! )... B-E-U heaven!

But I haven\'t played Soul Calibur. I have seen it. looks cool. But I think I can\'t enjoy a B-E-U game more than Tekken ;)

has it been confirmed that t4 will have interactive backgrounds, or is it just something everyone is presuming it will have?

has t4 even been confirmed to be made?

i reckon they will announce t4 sometime in march.

TTT is a better looking, both in characters and background, and a prefer TTT, but also still love SC, because of the weapons, and a change of scenery after playing TTT along time. I can\'t wait for T4 and SC2, they should be amazing.
any one played DOA2 Hardcore, I havent played any DOA apart from the PS1\'s one. Is it worth getting or rent it first.

Dear Soulgrind,

I didn\'t get mad. I was just under the ( maybe false )impression that you were upset that I didn\'t call this \'certain\' button by it\'s actual name.
So then I went like : Huh ?
( mabye because when I had my N64 I used to play alo
MK4 and it has a low kick button and a high kick button:
so somewhere in my brains things could have mixed up
with all the TTT buttons I\'m just getting to learn. )
Also about my loss to this other dude playing TTT :
we just had one go at it, about 15 minutes; 10 battles
of 2 rounds. He won 6, I won 4. It wasn\'t dramatic or anything, no big deal. That doesn\'t mean I can\'t play :
I can\'t play that good YET.
So it\'s all nothing to get worked up about and let\'s just
forget and forgive ok ?
Knotter8 :)
