SSX on GameCube?
« on: December 12, 2000, 06:22:05 PM »
I know this is a PS2 forum but i thought this was important for PS2\'s best title right now.

SSexy!

Are you ready for a special edition version of SSX for Gamecube? You had better be. Full story.

December 11, 2000

Last week IGNcube reported that EA Canada had received Gamecube development hardware and was already deep in benchmark testing -- with impressive results too. At the time, we had no word on what possible software Electronic Arts was planning for Nintendo\'s console, if any, but now we do.
A leak within the huge publisher has now relayed to us that EA is internally working on a revamped and enhanced version of the PlayStation 2 title SSX for Gamecube, called simply SSX: Special Edition. That, despite earlier reports that the firm had plans to outsource all of its Gamecube content. The game, which we assume is being created at EA Canada (as it has development hardware and created the original SSX), will allegedly feature extra boarders, tracks and "other goodies," according to a source close to those involved.

Interestingly, we\'re told SSX: SE will be used by EA as a testing ground for any future Gamecube products to come. Supposing the project goes well from a development standpoint and then, more importantly, enjoys a decent amount of retail success, the company\'s "Big" label will include Nintendo\'s platform for its next offering -- a rumored extreme mountain biking game.

As always, we contacted Electronic Arts for comment and received the typical response: "EA does not comment on rumors and speculation."

That bites!!! Those GameCubers are going to have a better SSX than me.  I WANT SSX:SE!!! Zelda & SSX:SE? I\'m beginning to rethink my whole Anti-GC feelings.

I doubt anyone will care about the port. By the time the GC makes its debut, SSX will be about a year old!! Who would want a rehashed version of a launch title, that\'s medicore at best?? As a Nintendo fanboy however, what I find delighting about this snippet of news is EA\'s attitude softening up toward the GC. The relationship between Nintendo and EA got pretty stale with the N64, and I thought they would never cross arms with Nintendo again. If you check the publisher\'s past few years list of titles, they have either canned or moved their planned N64 projects to other systems, namely the PSX. Just goes to show how much developers care about the name behind a console, and what they pledge their royalty to: money. If EA can be turned, then it thrills me to think what other comapnies will also gear up toward the GC (Square is on every N-fanboy\'s christmas list).

Its an EA game, that will sell it alone. Enhanced graphics I bet. Extra stuff. Yeah, it will be a killer title for the GC.

What I find funny, is that most sites that are revelling in the anti-PS2 hype, ie most CG and X-Box sites, point to the fact that, in their opinion, there were no good PS2 launch titles, however once SSX is RUMOURED to be on the GC, it\'s big and exciting news for the Nintendo-heads.

:)

Whatever, like ddaryl said, we\'ll be playing MGS2, and perhaps a TRUE sequel to SSX as well.

Show me a link to a legitimate GC/X-Box site that says there are no good games for the PS2. Most sites say that there are not enough good games to warrant all of the hype. They are also pointing out that the PS2s best games (at the moment) will also be on the GC.

BTW, While you are playing MGS2 I will be playing SSX:SE, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and MGS2. So suck on that. :p

to there are ways to give the illusion of AA,without having to take cuts in performance, and some developers are are taking advantage of themhowever ,until SOny comes up with a specific and easy ways to implement true AA that dosent take major hits on performance, you probably wont be seeing a huge number of games take advantage of it.

While SSX is a great game, I wouldn\'t call it PS2\'s best title.  I would say that TTT and Timesplitters tie for first place.  It is all a matter of oppinion anyways.

ddaryl and Lavan have summed up what I think quite nicely.  I hope you enjoy SSX:SE, because the PS2 will probably get the true sequal to it SSX shortly afterwards.  And we get MGS2 :p

I haven\'t always been too kind on Nintendo. But if this is indeed true then I would like to get a GC. I\'m after the games and an enhanced SSX sounds too good to be true (and it might be). But it it\'s real - then I\'m there! And I do think SSX was the best launch game, but as always - it\'s opinion. :)

i had no idea Metroid was even confirmed as a game in development and as for Zelda on GC,i think that won\'t see the light until well into late 2002 or beyond i\'m guessing.
