Sony to Add MP3 and CD Playback to PlayStation 4

Following high demand from fans, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will eventually support playback of MP3s and audio CDs, but not from "day one."....

....Internally, though, MP3 CD and DNLA features were something about which Shu and the PlayStation engineers thought "we are going to do it eventually."

Interesting.  When I was suspicious the ps4 might not have cd len to read cd-format about a couple months ago, it turn out the ps4 does have cd len in it.  maybe it was 3 in 1 laser lens.  Because i remember reading the ps4 supports blu ray and dvd, i thought they don't support cd probably because it doesn't have cd reading len in it.  But i was wrong.  cool though.  i can enjoy listening to cd audios on the ps4 in the future where i might buy one when it get even cheaper and games that might interest me.

I heard yesterday that the ps4 will not support 3D Bluray movies, only regular ones. Not sure how true it is though and whether or not it will have a massive impact as I know the Xbox one will support 3D movies.

i think its true for now that the ps4 cannot playback 3-D blu ray movies.  But sony has said in the nearby future they will add that on future firmware update.  the ps3 can playback 3D movies, so it's very likely the ps4 can do the same too in the nearby future.

That is true but apparently they put in in the user guide that it wont play 3D movies which seems odd.

That is weird. Its definitely not a hardware issue. Looks like they'll just fix it in an update. I think the PS3 can play blu-ray 3D and 3D blu-rays I don't even think existed when PS3 came out. I'm sure its coming. There's a lot of things which I can't remember off the top of my head that PS4 doesn't support just yet which they are adding down the road. Doesn't bother me. As long as it plays games. Any features the PS3 has the PS4 doesn't have right away is fine. My PS3 is gonna be hooked up until way past the PS5 comes out (PS2 is still hooked up to my TV as well as my Genesis :D)

I'm gonna take my lessons with the PS3. Some lenses were an all in one. Some, like my model had a separate blu-ray lens and DVD/CD lens. The only difference really is the color light and the width of the beam. I don't know why Sony used two lenses. Probably some technical reason beyond my comprehension or maybe it was easier or reasons behind the blu-ray technology.. When my PS3 stopped reading blu-rays, I could read CDs and DVDs just fine.

I didn't know sony uses 2 lenses for some ps3 versions.  I think the reason why sony uses 2 lenses instead of all in one is to improve the longevity of the lenses and better reading accuracy of any discs compare to all in one.  Say like discs that have dusts, fingerprints, or scratches is more lenient on seperate lens that were specify to specific type of disc than all in one lens.
it's a bit more expensive to use seperate lenses but overall better reading quality than all in one.  Just a guess.

btw, what model is your ps3 that has 2 seperate lenses?
