Is it possible to play blu ray video at 1080p/60?
« on: November 17, 2013, 09:47:15 PM »
nearly 2 years ago, i read that blu ray players don't support 1080p.  Do you guys think they may support it in the future like via firmware update?  the blu ray players max video bitrate is 40 mbps and that more than enough to encode 1080p/60 beautifully.

I'm pretty sure they have been doing 1080p. Not sure at 60 fps. Though curiously I looked at my blu-ray of Batman Begins and it says its 1080p. Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second so it seems silly to bump that framerate up. Plus I'm old school. I prefer my movies at 24fps :)

I managed to force mine to run at 60p, so I'm fairly certain you can. can't remember what it was exactly that I did, other than change one of the system settings.

whoops.  i realize i left out a number there.  i meant to say that "i read that blu ray players dont' support 1080p/60."  i left out /60.  i know blu ray players support 1080p/24 and 1080i/60 but not 1080p60.  My poor retarded brain.

As soon as i made this post, i looked it up on wikipedia and they say new blu ray players does support 1080p/60.

Cerberus, I think the 1080p/60 settings you made was for repeating the frames of 24fps to 60fps for 1080p.  like a 3-2 pulldown or like upconvert it from 24fps to 60fps.  or however you say it.  Either that or your player does support native 1080p/60fps playback - maybe from via firmware update.

I didn't say it supports 60 native, it doesn't. I said I managed to force it to output at 60.
