I tell u what worries me.. What happens if MS buy out most of the GREAT developers.?
Then stop them from developering for the other consoles.. Will we end up HAVING too buy the XBOX because we have no choice.
What games we want.. We can\'t get.
But we can on the XBOX....
Microsoft should not be feared at all. Most people on this board are not even old enough to know how Microsoft got where they got today. A lot of mistakes were made by other companies and Microsoft produced a better product. Let me give you some examples....
IBM\'s OS/2 which Microsoft worked with IBM. Microsoft already had Windows 3.0 at the time and it was doing great and IBM wanted Microsoft to work with them so Microsoft instead wanted their way so they had Windows 3.0 now the developers wanted to develop for Windows and NOT OS/2 so OS/2 died because the developers chose Windows (not because Microsoft forced them to do so, just like developers chose the PS over all other forms of consoles). Where developers go so do the consumers (does this sound familar?). IBM later started shipping Windows instead of their own Operating System.
Lotus 123, decided that they wanted to create their spreadsheet program on OS/2 instead of Windows and then when OS/2 Died they died with them since Microsoft already had Excell on Windows. Since Lotus didn\'t go to windows, Microsoft filled the void.
wordperfect was the number one word processing software until Novell (A network geek company hense a non consumer company) decided to buy out Word Perfect and they killed Word Perfect, allowing Microsoft Word to take over since there was nothing else, by the time Corel bought word Perfect and brought it back to windows it was too late.
Netscape a leading browser which was going to be re-written from scratch to start over the horrible "non-scalable", "Not documented", "cowboy coding" that had taken place since Netscape was first coded, however Netscape died when AOL bought out netscape and it wasn\'t being updated anymore from scratch and so the code since its so old it was causing crashes and such. The employees of Netscape left because of AOL and Internet Explorer took over.
Did you know that AOL also owns ICQ, Instant Messager, Winamp, Netscape, and many other internet programs out there and they are merging with Time/Warner.
There are a ton more cases like this but I don\'t want to write a book because people won\'t even read this far... Microsoft has won because everyone else has failed or had bad business plans the same way the PSX took the console scene, because all their competitors failed (SEGA Saturn, Nintendo 64, Atari Jaguar, 3DO)
My point is that Microsoft is not the one you should be scared of. Microsoft is being held back by the US government and they won\'t go very far at all. The one you should be scared of is Sony, I know many of you love Sony but the fact is that they are a lot worse than Microsoft but they arn\'t an American company so they aren\'t feared as much. Sony has their fingers in more things than Microsoft at the moment and thats a fact, from computers, videogame hardware, video game software, computer hardware, computer software, music titles, Music hardware, Singers and Song writers, Movies, all home electronics, etc.... Sony also has kicked Microsoft\'s xbox promotions out of the stores by using blackmail and they arn\'t held back by anyone including the Japanese Government.
Trust me, there won\'t be a Microsoft refrigerator or whatever, but with Sony you never know. If there is money in it, Sony will be there.
