Is anyone else's states doing this? A couple colleges in my neck of the woods started converting single occupancy women's bathrooms into these "gender neutral" bathrooms. Basically, it started with a LGBT movement to have a safe bathroom for people who are say men but identify as women but can't use the women's bathroom and aren't comfortable in the men's bathroom. But anyone can use them. So basically they are just bathrooms with a fancy new sign to be politically correct. What is everyone else's take on it?

Princeton University plans to switch its single-stall bathrooms to "gender-neutral" facilities to create a more inclusive environment for the campus, officials said Thursday.

Michele Minter, vice provost for institutional equity and diversity at Princeton, said the issue has been raised many times over the years, particularly among staff in the university's Office of Disability Services because neutral spaces would be more accessible to those who require assistance from caretakers.

There is also "an enormous number of family visitors" who could share the bathrooms with children they do not wish to leave unattended, Minter said.

"We felt that it was worth doing institutionally because we have so many people who would benefit from it," Minter said.

Within the past five years, Minter said the idea has come up "among gender non-conforming students who feel uncomfortable with gendered stalls."

"There has been a more visible population of gender non-conforming students who want to feel that they can go into a bathroom and not be questioned why they are there," Minter said.

The university's Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center maintains a map of all gender-neutral and single-stall bathrooms marked for men and women.

A similar push was made at Rowan University among students fighting for gender equality.

Three Princeton University students designed an app called "GirlCode" to share the access codes to women's bathrooms across the campus, urging for policy reform. It was pulled last month after a meeting between the students and university officials.

Work on transitioning the single-stalls began earlier last year and is not in response to the app, university spokesman Martin Mbugua said.

The gender-neutral bathroom concept is not new to the university, Minter said. The school has "family-friendly" bathrooms across campus but is seeking to make all of its single-stalls open to anyone, she said.

The university cannot simply change the signs hanging outside the bathrooms, said Anne St. Mauro, assistant vice president of the school's Office of Design and Construction.

Princeton has to apply to the state for special exemptions for each bathroom change because plumbing codes require a certain number of "gendered stalls" in buildings with 50 or more occupants, St. Mauro said.

"It's really how we want to do this, because we can't just create 50 variations to send to the state at once," she said. "It has to be done strategically."

Staff has been analyzing buildings on campus and developing an inventory of which type of bathrooms exist in each, St. Mauro said.

Minter said the primary challenge with the shift is logistics.

"It's not a small amount of work, and it's not easy on a campus this large when some of the buildings are as old as they are," Minter said. "But we feel it would be beneficial."

nothing like that here in Aus, that i know of anyway.
I only know of 1 person that walks around dressed like a chick. That person was the father to one of my old mates. Which i haven't seen for a few years now. So i don't think there's much of a demand for that sorta thing.

There's not much of a demand for it here either. One of the schools in the state that did this gender neutral bathroom was my alma mater. While I was there, I don't think I ever saw a dude in a dress that wasn't part of a frat prank. But that's political correctness in America. Spend a lot of money changing things that don't really matter to accommodate a couple people to spare their feelings.

Personally, it would be nice if we could live in a society that didn't require any segregation, or that allowed transgendered people to feel comfortable in the bathroom of their associated gender.

Correct. Basically anyone is allowed to use the bathroom. Doesn't matter if your man or woman or she dude.
