Samsung Galaxy S6 Pricier to Build, But Cheaper to Buy than Apple iPhone 6

The recently released Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is the most expensive Galaxy S line smartphone yet built, but has a lower retail price than a comparable iPhone 6 Plus, according to an estimate by IHS.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone with 64GB of NAND memory carries a bill of materials (BOM) of $284.85 with the cost rising to $290.45 when the $5.60 manufacturing cost is added, according to results from the IHS teardown of a phone purchased from Verizon. The retail price at Verizon for the Galaxy S6 Edge is $799.99.

A comparable Apple iPhone 6 Plus 64GB has a BOM of $236.04, which rises to $240.05 after $4.01 manufacturing cost is added, and a retail price from the Apple online store of $849.00, $50 higher than the S6 Edge.

"Overall, this is the priciest Samsung Galaxy S series bill of materials to date. In fact, Samsung seems to have consistently packed more features and cost into their flagship Galaxy S line of phones over the last three generations of product, now producing a BOM cost that is notably higher than comparable iPhones," said Andrew Rassweiler, senior director of research and analysis for IHS.

interesting.  smart phones is one of my weak points when it comes on how to use it.  what is the difference between an iphone compare to other smartphones?  what is your thought on iphone compares to this samsung galaxy?

i have a Samsung galaxy 6 Edge 32Gig, I don't need anything larger. Also a galaxy Tab S 10.5inch 16gig Got them in a combo pack deal with my phone provider. The tablet was 4 bucks more a month.

I think its great, only flaw it has is one speaker on the bottom of the phone. Samsung uses android where Iphone has iOS, personally i don't like iOS. I had a iPhone 4 and i have a Ipad2. Although good devices i hate the fact the operating systems baby people and have f#@k all room for altering. Unless you jailbreak your phone which ends up giving you all sorts of other problems.

My Samsung has its own front-end which i prefer and I've fully customized it to my liking.  Also has a fair few cool little features like in coming call colours, constant edge display for time etc, infra red lens  (which my htc one had and i use a lot) Big screen, great resolution. Personally i don't see the point of extremely high res on a phone but yay bonus.  The camera is great too. Does pretty good pics and has some cool features.

Also prefer the fact that i can download music straight to my phone without the need to have some bullshit itunes crap to do it. Either online or direct copy from my pc. The phone will automatically detect and add the songs to my listings.

i see.  another big difference that i found is iphone 6 uses led-lcd screen while galaxy S6 uses amoled screen.  the amoled screen is definitely a lot better because of infinite contrast ratio and perfect viewing angle while led-lcd still has much crappier contrast ratio and viewing angles problem.
