need help with pal ps2......

i live in australia and as you know we use pal version of ps2.my question is that with DOA2, there is option that aloud you to choose between 50hz mode or 60hz mode.50hz is for all pal tvs but 60hz is for tvs which supports 60hz mode. in 50hz, obviously there\'s border lines at top and bottom but when i turned to 60hz, it was at full screen but without colors(B&W) so is this mean that my ps2 is defective or  my tv just doesn\'t support 60hz mode at all. i don\'t know whether my tv supports 60hz mode cuz if it doesn\'t supports 60hz at all, then shouln\'t it just flickers or be unstable instead of nothing wrong with it except with no colors. i hope someone answer me and tell me that whether my ps2 is defective or not.

it\'s just pal tv\'s doesn\'t support 60hz. If you could find something like the psx\'s "pal converter" then it should work fine with colors. Anyways, how did you switch it to 60hz?? I couldn\'t find it anywhere in the manual.

a lot of PAL TVs support 60 Hz in these days.

If you want to know if your TV supports 60 Hz mode, you could read the manual( normally in the last pages) or just look at the back of your TV.
If you see something like "50/60 Hz" in the information on the back, then it\'s compatible. If you only see "50 Hz" NEVER use the 60 Hz option cos it could damage your TV.

thanks guys for your replies, well i don\'t have my T.V manual since i bought it from 2nd hand store so there\'s noway for me to find out. to the guy from NZ( i think his name was bliz)since you are my neighbour, do you have DOA2?...if so, did you tried it in 60hz mode? i like to know your situation. i think some games has that mode option and some hasn\'t. does any of your other games has that mode option? cuz i only own DOA2(spent too much on ps2). also what happens if you play a dvd that is from other country. cuz while region 4 dvds(australia\'s region code)works wonderfully, this dvd which has U.S code, plays normally but in black and white and plays perfectly in my PC(picture quality wasn\'t good at all though).so can anybody tell me what\'s the problem is??? i am getting paranoid of black and white thing......just yesterday i had a dream that was in black and white!!!!!!  help me!!!!!!!!

well, i don\'t think i can help ya with doa2 cause i only got the ps2 console playing my old ps1 games on it. gotta work for another week before i get a ps2 game lol. And the DVD part, US DVD\'s runs at 60hz from what i know *heart beating very very fast, hoping it is right* so that\'s probably the reason why you are getting black and white colors. I by all region DVD\'s (cause there\'s this asian shop i go to that sells them for around an extra 4-9$). And i they all played nicely. I thought the ps2 is region locked too... geez i think i am wasting money buying region free DVD\'s.

The test mode changes to 60Hz for 5 secs. If the picture is OK, then your TV support 60Hz. If it flickers and/or is only black and white, then your TV does NOT suppoert 60Hz. So your PS2 is not defective - it\'s just that your TV doesn\'t support 60 Hz.

Yeah, Samwise is right.
The problem is that i know some people with 50 Hz TVs who have tested that and it works( it gives full screen too), so they thought that they have a 60 Hz TV. Weeks or days later, it starts to fail( can\'t memorize channels, image distortion, etc).
So BEFORE you do anything, look at the back of your TV( in the information plate, and probably near the voltage info) and check if your TV has 50/60 Hz mode or above( a 100 Hz mode). If you could see this, then there\'s absolutely no problem and you could choose the 60 Hz mode.

thanks guys for your all advices, well...just last night, me and my fingernails spent about 10mins to peel away those labels and stamps at the back of TV and sure enough there was 50hz sign. well maybe it\'s time to buy new TV.....least my ps2 is fine......

well I dont know about australia, but here in europe we have scart use that & the picture will be in couler. Most T.V less than 7 years old should have them. Just the old psx type will do £3.99 (has to be the RGB type not phonos going into a scart adapter)
