Square announced that they would like to go multiplatform and support all systems except for Sega(Square are jackasses now). But they do not want to have conflict with there relationship with Sony. After Sony had spent well over 250 million plus on the Final Fantasy movie, plus Square will get a percent on the movie when it is released in theaters, which is supposed to dominate the box office for at least 1 month or maybe even 2.
Now this is money in Square\'s pocket too, but if they do want to keep that movie production going, they cannot make Sony mad in any way, because they can stop the movie from being released anytime. Since Sony did produce the movie and put the production money in(common sense tells you this)Sony does have rights to the Final Fantasy name itself.....
A suggestion has been thrown out by Square several times. They could port games to the X-Box through EA in Japan only since EA does publish Square games in Japan, but here is the problem EA does not publish games in the US for Square only in Japan. Square develops and publish games by themseleves here in the US. So if you see an announcement like this "Square signs on to the X-Box" this week or next week, be warnful that this could only be in Japan we are talking about here, not in the US.
Square is in the biggest spot in there life, Lord knows that Square doesn\'t want to throw out a movie they worked on so long just to sign onto the X-Box, when they will be getting percents for the movie at the Box Office. Damn I hate to be Square these days.
Square wants to support Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo(Finally mended fences).
Here is a suggestion I have thought of to make Sony happy, and Square happy.
Sony should let them develop for X-Box here in the US, but telling Square to leave 50 exclusives to the PS2 only, games that could only be seen on the PS2. That would probaly include Final Fantasy, and The Bouncer, or other games.
If there is announcement stating Square will develop for X-Box in the US. We probaly know that Sony gave them an ok on the situation and the Final Fantasy movie would now still go on, but there would be exclusives to the PS2 from Square....
Then officially Square would develop for Sony(More exclusives would be given to them), X-Box(Less Exclusives to them, but some), Nintendo(Ports from X-Box or the PS2 would be given to them, and maybe an exclusive).
Whatever the case may be we know Sony will have a say in it, hopefully they would go multi-platform.
