About DVD Movies and the movie GLADIATOR
« on: December 17, 2000, 12:31:34 PM »
Okay this weekend I rented Gladiaotr on dvd for my PS2. Now I\'ve seen widescreen before but not like this. Its like super widescreen. Does the widescreen seem extra wide for anyone with that movie?? Oh and whoever mentioned the "glitch" after the sister says "He drink this tonic" I noticed it too.

I don\'t like widescreen, it shrinks the picture too much.  I\'m gonna get a 16:9 TV so it looks perfect.

Those are pretty expensive, were you get all the dough?

Anyway, I noticed it as well on Any Given Sunday. Not sure about Gladiator though, hope some one can help me on the AGS though thanx.

DVD\'s should come with the option to make it widescreen or regular...most DVD\'s only support widescreen, and really not that many people have them...it pisses me off
Playstation 2...yeah, I got that:D

what you are talking is 16 by 9 enhanced ratio.  Movies in theater now run at 2.35:1 aspect ratio.  Then they squeezed it to fit 1.79:1 ratio for dvd.
playstation 2 rules.  Nintendo Starcube Dolphin drools.  Hehehahahheheheh...

Gladiator is 2.35:1...  Some movies are 1.8:1, but it\'s not uncommon.  Just get use to it.  DVD world will never go to crappy Pan and Scan.  And as far as getting a 16X9 screen, you still have black bars on even 1.85:1,so again, get use to it...

Video is right on the money. Widescreen is the only way to go. This months issue of Sound and Vision has the 8 most common aspect ratios.

TVs with a 16x9 mode still have the same black bars are the top and bottom.  All "16x9 mode" does is puts all of the scan lines (and hence the detail) in the picture band across the middle.  Real 16x9 TVs are crazy expensive.

FackinKubuss, I was the one who originally had the problem with Gladiator.  Have you by any chance played it on a regular DVD player?  That\'s the real test for us.

There is no "Problem" with Gladiator.

And 16X9 tvs aren\'t crazy expensive either.  You can get a 50 inch High Definition TV now for 3,000....

I love Gladiator...

Cool movie.

But I\'ve seen it too many times, \'tho.

Well, this has something to do with this thread really. This has something to do with Gladiator. My opinion about Gladiator :)
