Samsung's 2023 TV Lineup Topped by New 77" QD-OLED & MicroLED Models


Samsung today unveiled a 2023 TV lineup featuring an impressive range of new models in its Neo QLED, MicroLED, and Quantum Dot-OLED (QD-OLED) lineups.

Topping Samsung’s TV news is the arrival of a 77-inch QD-OLED model that will join the 55- and 65-inch S95 models introduced last year, recipients of Sound & Vision’s prestigious Overall Top Pick of the Year for 2022. Building on the core strengths of traditional OLED, QD-OLED takes a good thing and makes it better, delivering improved brightness, contrast, and color with a wide viewing angle to boot...

...MicroLED will also get a big boost in 2023 with a second-generation series of new models in screen sizes ranging from 50 to 140 inches.

Is that time of the year again where CES introduces new electronic technologies.

Good to know that samsung is releasing a 77" version of its latest qd-oled tv this year beside the 55" and 65" that they introduced last year.  Not only that but this year's model also gets brighter than last year's model.

Samsung's also introducing their second generation of microled tvs this year.  Sizes range from 50" to 146" compare to only 110" of last year's model.  One of the cool things about micro-leds is that they don't reflect light like other types of display technologies.

CES Preview: LG Goes Wireless with Stunning 97” OLED



LG made a splash this morning with its pre-show announcement of a stunning 97-inch OLED TV. As beautiful and minimalist as the display is, connectivity is the story here. Instead of delivering audio and video via HDMI, the TV includes the Zero Connect wireless transmitter that sends audio and video to the TV wirelessly in real-time at up to 4K 120Hz.
Pricing and availability was not announced, though LG says the TV will deliver in 2023.

Unlike a conventional TV, the svelte M3 TV is devoid of physical connections. Instead, multiple HDMI ports are located on the Zero Connect box, which can also connect wirelessly with compatible soundbars, eliminating tangled cables at the TV. To ensure the seamless transfer of data from the box to the TV, the company developed an algorithm that instantly identifies the optimal transmission path to minimize transmission errors or disruptions; the algorithm even recognizes changes in the immediate environment — such as people or pets moving around the room — and switches paths accordingly.

LG wouldn’t say what frequency the wireless operates on but claims it is three times the bandwidth of Wi-Fi 6. To further maximize signal strength, the box’s antenna can be rotated and tilted to align with the TV.



Sweetening the deal, the Zero Connect box responds to simple spoken commands to turn the set on and off and manage connected devices. The TV boasts LG’s One Wall Design featuring an integrated bracket that allows the display to sit flush against the wall with no visible gap wall, giving it an art gallery aesthetic.

forgive me that english is my 2nd language.  what does mortgage means if you don't mind me asking?

A mortgage is a loan you take out for either for 15 years or 30 years (30 years is the most common) so you can buy a house or a condo or some other real estate. Some people take out a second mortgage to borrow against their home for big purchases like renovations, an uh oh moment or to buy something big. Usually not a great idea unless you really have no other choice lol.

oh i see.  thank you for explaining that.

added: yeah, early generations of very, very big screen tvs are ridiculously expensive.  But as time goes by, its get cheaper and cheaper as new models of same size come out.  so in 5 to 10 years from now, prices for the 97" OLED TV might come down to five fold.  Last year launch of the first 97" Oled, it has a msrp of $25,000.  In five to 10 years from now, the price might drop down to as much as down to $5,000.  maybe a little less than that in 5 to 10 years from now.

...Samsung S95C


Last year, Samsung introduced the world to QD-OLED with the release of the S95B, a TV that combined two of the most impactful display technologies available today: quantum dot-color and OLED. In 2023, Samsung is iterating on this formula with the S95C.

Not only did the S95B maintain the famously perfect black levels, excellent uniformity, and ultra-wide viewing angles associated with OLED displays, it also offered brighter highlights and bolder, brighter colors than any OLED TV we had seen to date—a direct result of its use of quantum dots. The S95C is well positioned to build on the success of its predecessor; according to Samsung, the S95C delivers more-accurate color and an even brighter picture, all while using energy more efficiently.

Like the QN95C, the S95C is packed with bonus features: an integrated camera, Samsung Health Monitor, and a full suite of next-gen gaming features. The S95C will also feature an impressive gaming refresh rate of 144Hz.

Our biggest beef with last year’s S95B had to do with its sluggish software, so we’re hoping that the TV’s smart platform gets a tune-up before it makes its way into the marketplace.


LG G3


Like the G Series OLEDs that came before it, the G3 is engineered to hang on your wall like a portrait, with virtually no gap between the TV and the wall itself. If history is any indication, LG will separately sell an optional stand to viewers who’d rather not wall-mount the G3. With any luck, the new version of the G Series stand will be greatly improved over last year’s iteration: a pedestal-style stand that wobbled more than its fair share.

Performance-wise, G Series OLEDs are among the best TVs you can buy. The G2 and G1 were among the best TVs of their respective years thanks to their incredible contrast, phenomenal color production, and LG’s superb picture processing. Were it not for the release of a pair of QD-OLED TVs (the Samsung S95B and the Sony A95K), the G2 would’ve been the brightest OLED of the year.

But QD-OLED’s reign of best-in-class brightness might be coming to an end when the G3 hits shelves in a few months. According to LG, the G3 is said to be 70% brighter than previous LG B Series OLEDs, likely due to a combination of light-boosting software and a new type of OLED panel technology that focuses brightness toward the viewer...

very good to know that this year samsung is going to release the qd-oled tvs that is not just brighter than last year model but better color too.

lg said that their g series oled will get 70% brighter than last year's B series.  this tv reviewed website reviewed last year B series oled tv and it can produces brightness up to about 550 nits in a 20% white window, so maybe that means it can produce up to 600ish nits of brightness in a smaller than 20% white window like 10% or less white window.

so 600 nits x 70% equal 420 nits.  and 600 + 420 = 1,020 nits of brightness for the G3 series oled.  nice.

LG G3 OLED: LG promises 22% less power consumption from OLED Meta panels with 30% wider viewing angles and 2,100 nits peak brightness

LG Display has confirmed more details about its next-generation OLED panels. Soon to be available in the LG G3 OLED, LG Display's 'OLED Meta' panels should provide superior brightness than their predecessors, with up to 2,100 nits peak luminosity quoted. LG Display claims that its new displays also offer wider viewing angles while consuming less power too.



LG Display has shared more details about its third-generation OLED TV panels following the introduction of the LG C3, G3 and Z3 OLED Smart TVs during CES 2023. Initially, LG Electronics only revealed that these third-generation panels would be upwards of 70% brighter than their predecessors, a claim that HDTVTest put through its paces during this year's trade show. LG Display has now outlined what peak brightness levels to expect from third-generation panels and how it has achieved this improvement.

As the company's official images show, these new panels will be known as 'OLED Meta' or META Technology 1.0. Supposedly, the greatest generational change is the microlenses that sit in front of each OLED pixel. LG Display claims that a 77-inch 4K panel contains 5,117 microlenses per pixel for 42.4 billion microlenses across the entire panel. These billions of microlenses direct light towards viewers and reduce reflections inside the panel by minimising light scattering. This change works in collaboration with an algorithm dubbed 'Meta Booster' to offer up to 2,100 nits peak brightness, compared to 1,300 nits offered by older LG OLED panels.

LG Display adds that its Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology also reduces power consumption by up to 22% from last-generation OLED panels, with each OLED pixel able to operate at a lower luminosity while maintaining the same overall panel brightness. Third-generation OLED panels should offer better viewing angles too, with a 30-degree improvement from 130- to 160 degrees. LG Display's new OLED Meta panels will be available later this year in 55-inch to 88-inch screen sizes. Pricing has not been confirmed yet, but LG Display hopes to eventually offer small and larger options based on OLED Meta technologies.

interesting, this website said that the upcoming LG G3 series OLED is 70% brighter than its predecessor models, and said that it can produce up to 2,100 nits of brightness compare to last year's model of 1,300 nits.

if true.  that is so cool.  the other website said 70% brighter than last year's B2 and when this other website reviewed the B2 late last year, its said its can only produce up to 550 nits of brightness (probably around 600 nits in white window less than 20% of the screen) and 70% brighter means only about 1,020 nits total brightness.  me gets confused.

This website tells a different story though.  2,100 nits of peak brightness exceeds my expectations there.  Not only that but this year OLED G3 model consumes about 22% less energy than last year's model.  It can also improve the viewing angles from 130 to 160 degrees compares to previous years models.

OLED TVs generally have very good viewing angles already and this year LG OLED TVs viewing angles improve even more compare to previous years models make it even sweeter.
