DVDs on PS2
« on: January 02, 2001, 07:14:54 AM »
So I just got my PS2 yesterday and have played a few DVDs on it with no problems. I later noticed that the box states that the unit is compatible with DVDs that have a "PS2 compatible" sticker on them. Has anybody had any experience with DVD problems on the PS2? And if so which DVDs were the problem?
Unlax dude

lol, "playstation 2 compatible" = marketing scheme.  ignore it. if it a DVD movie and the correct region code, it will play.  what problems u may have [skipping, freezing] are unavoidable for a non-standardized medium

SCEA tech support has told me that PS2 uses an anti-piracy routine which checks the color of the DVD.  CDRs are gold and are guarded against which also adversely, in my case, affects the playback of gold-bottom DVDs.  Sometimes bringing them to a halt.

I was also told that stickers rental stores place on the tops of DVDs hinder their performance.

Yeah and I can go you one better than that:

They said they were working with DVD companies to stop the production of gold-bottom DVDs.  Sounds pretty arrogant if you ask me.
