Reason for MS dropping the X-Box DVD playback......
« on: January 03, 2001, 04:25:46 PM »
So it could have a nice price drop, probaly the X-Box will cost, since it want have DVD included.....250 dollars at most.

The problem Sony will have a drop in price once the X-Box is released.

Probaly 230 dollars, MS has done it again, but has backfired.

The Xbox still has DVD playback, you just have to buy an inexpensive remote to activate it.  Also, I highly doubt a price drop that big from Sony.  They are already losing money on the PS2, I doubt they want to lose even more.

You will still be paying full price for the xbox. It still has the DVD movie playback hardware.  I think the xbox will come out for around 300 US dollers. Most import/export websites are guessing it around 399/499 US dollers. It\'s got alot of new hardware. The p3 in it\'s self would give it a big price. Nvidia don\'t sell there hardware cheap either.

if its going to be what they say it is, its going to cost at least 300 dollars, otherwise its going to be less "pretty specs" and there is no denying that. In fact I can see a possible 350 dollar launch price.... If you want the "incrediable specs" you are going to pay. And don\'t think MS is going to take much of a hit, they are already spending 500 mil on advertising

Sony didn\'t spend much on PS2 marketing. It sold it\'s self. The shortage was the BEST marketing campaign in history... I can see Microsoft is HELL BENT on making this thing succeed. Hype can be a bad thing. Xbox to the game industry is the ID4 or ARMEGEDDON to the movie industry. All glitz and hype, but when you see it, it\'s garbage.

Well Sony dropped 2 controller ports, a modem and a harddrive to hit its price target. The PS2 also has less ram,

Sacrafices are a necessity.

Still it makes me laugh to read so much crap about the Xbox here, why not wait unrtil Saturday when most will be revealed and the Rev can guide all of you lost sheep to the promise land

SONY is really in trouble, the only thing that people won\'t buy X-box are people who hate M$ or if they like PS2\'s games (which about 1/6 will to X-box). I\'m still waiting for the next shipment. :(

Dang, AM, you must\'ve spammed a lot

In my opinion, Nintendo has the best marketing idea of the next two systems. Stay secertive. Don\'t hype it up. If they hype, it can\'t live up to it. If people go in without any expectations, then it will be better.

If MS is going to hype, then they need to release launch title list. For people have something to look forward to, beyond the design / specifications.

I\'m with Ddaryl though. There is been way to many posts on the Xbox since lastnight. Its amazing. You could mistake this board for a MS board.

I look forward to the Rev\'s speech this weekend though. I\'m sure it will be interesting.

As for DVD playback. I\'m against the idea, that you have to purchase the remote, to use a function that is built in the system. That is stupid.

Does anyone want to explain to me what is going on?  I have been gone for a week and came back to a lot of confusing things.  Is this Saturday when Microsoft reviels(sp?) the Xbox?

I know you are having fun with AM, but actually, as a member of this forum, AM is only a month younger than you ViVi and just a 100+ posts behind.  Anytime I\'ve caught his views, they\'ve been interesting and typically worthy of the time to read.  I\'ve not noticed AM spamming on us here.

So what\'s going to be shown?  Games, or just more hardware things that show the power of the system?
