Sega\'s Re-releases Dreamcast with new Piracy Protection!
« on: January 03, 2001, 10:37:40 PM »
Yay! Now those gay piraters will have no where to turn but getting an old DC if they want to copy games after their DC\'s break down from CD-R reading so much!!!! The new laser will not read cd-rom at all. This means no Game Shark, or anything else copied!

It will still play audio discs and gig discs (what bllem! would be on), and GD-ROM of course!

Hey its good to see sega trying their best to avoid priates, but will it last?  Some of these people literaly spend days, weeks, months trying to figure out ways to copy or mod a system.  In due time..something will come out..and then sega will have to go back to the drawing board.

The only console that is fairly safe from pirating is the GCN. There are already DVD-Burners available and it is only a matter of time before there are pirated PS2 and X-Box games(Of course once X-Box games come out:D).

I don\'t think it\'ll last very long. I don\'t think it\'s that hard to hack the new version coz\' SEGA actually have forgotten to do something inside the DC that allows them to read the CD-ROM in the first place and the hackers pretty much know what\'s up their sleeve.

I agreed that only a propriatery format like the LunchCube is safe from piracy.. Your lunch will not be pirated!!

Har-de-har-har. That was funny! You should be a comedienne. But seriously that was only amusing when the GCN was first introduced and even then it wasn\'t that amusing.

BTW, I can\'t find a PeeS2. Get it I said pee instead of P. WHOOOOO!!! I am one funny mofo.

Now if Sega\'s truly updating the whole console because of pirating the protection system must be something revolutionar. Otherwise Sega\'s spending money to nothing and pirates will crack up the console before Sega is able to say: "Our console is now Pirate-free!"

Oh, one good point of the cartridges were that piratism didn\'t exist. But that\'s the only good point.

joyda, the n64 was even easier to pirate due to cart size.  32 meg of info vs 650 megs ?

ever hear of v64 doctor?  it allowed u to dump a ROM image of any n64 game onto a cdr and play.  meaning u could throw 8 n64 games onto one disk.

sorry, now I remember. I forgot the darn thing :)

But you couldn\'t buy pirated cartridges to your console, could you? I mean; if you didn\'t own PC you couldn\'t get pirate-games?

Now almost every Playstation-owner I know plays pirates with their console.

But yes, N64 was easy to pirate I see...

u could go to any swapmeet and but a cd with n64 games on it, if u didnt have a net connection.  hell the one i go occasionally is filled with boothes selling bootleg cd\'s, DC games dubbed VCR tapes.  its quite sickening.

and I am the kind of jerk who would report them to the police :)

I would be like "Can I have your name and address so I can come over later and buy stuff then, I wll have much more money then."

"yes, sure no problem my name is...my addy is..."

then you get home, dial 9-1-1 or the Piracy police thing on id software or sierra software and tell them their info!!

bastages need to go to jail!

I agree somewhat. But I have a burned copy of photoshop, flash, Borland C++, and Bryce 4.0 so I am not one to point fingers. I just can\'t afford all of that software, even with a student discount the prices are ridiculous.

The N64 was piratable but it wasn\'t convenient coz you need to pay for all these gadgets and i don\'t think it was that popular(the VDoctor). the PSX on the other hand, just need a mod chip and voila, hassle free pirating....much like the DC now(which don\'t even need a mod chip!)!

Gohan: yeah..i used to write script for Jerry Seinfield before it went off air. PeeS2?? You still got a lot to learn kid.

It won\'t last. Good for Sega to try though. People will find a way around it and begin again.

It doesn\'t play the GameShark CDX either. So, if by some chance you wanted to play imports you couldnt. Which isn\'t a big deal, cause currently this unit is only in Japan. Though, I imagine they will eventually bring it to the US.

Which reminds me. I have to buy a new DC come Jan30th. They are releasing the "SMASH PACK".

Two DCs..Yum.
:)

hmmm... can\'t judge sega for trying \'tho. Agree with you Living in that I do. Hackers always find the way around; but this will only slow them a bit.

The Force is strong on Dark Side. Path there is easy. Much easier the Dark Side is... and so on.
