All region DVD\'s
« on: January 04, 2001, 04:45:28 AM »
I just wonder if my PAL PS2 is capable of playing ALL REGION DVD\'s, theoretically, it should, but you can never be too sure, right?

I was planning to by the LA BLUE GIRL: DVD COLLECTORS BOXED SET EPS #1-12 (wich is a Hentai-collection). is says "DVD Regions ALL compatible", but it goes for 50$, so I want to be absolutely sure, before I burn some money...

Thanks in advandce...

If you purchased a PS2 in Europe, you can only view PAL DVDs and play PAL games.  If you own a PS2 purchased in USA then you can only view and play NTSC encoded stuff.  There are ways on DVD players to make them capable of playing both video formats (my friend did it) but I\'m not sure if you can do it on a PS2.  I\'m still looking for an answer myself.

Strike.

I\'m only 99.99% sure, but it should be able to read it, if it\'s an all-region DVD - Region 0 I believe. No problems - I guess. :)

There are no such things as PAL DVD\'s, NTSC DVD\'s, they are preferred as Region 2 and 1 Regional encoding explained
In VHSterms there are PAL and NTSC decoding (and of course, France wants its on, Secam (or is it Mescam?)).

I know this is kinda stupid question, I mean, DVD Regions ALL compatible speaks for it\'s self, but since this is a PS2 you never know, right?

Gee... What a mess...

Man, this is becoming a real mess..!!
i wish i can wait until the mess is sorted out.. my fear is i won\'t be able to wait anymore when GT3 is released.. i\'ll have to make a decision then on US or UK PS2..

Exactly, The PS2 doesn\'t even play VCDs. WTF? does the japanese PS2 play em? But it should play the DVD (region 0 is it?) unless Sony encoded the PS2 to ONLY play region 1/2. I would consult the manual and/or try to contact Sony.

Well I have a jap PS2 NTSC region 2, does it play Uk DVD\'s region 2 PAL. NO!

So I got an all region PAL DVD the one on the front of PSW magazine to be exact. Popped it in did it play? NO, message came up wrong TV format.

So take this into account, ok its not my jap PS2 but I bet its the same. The long & short of it is it will play all region DVD\'s as long as they are the same video format PAL for pal or NTSC for you guest it ntsc.

If I put an all region NTSC DVD in my Jap Ps2 it plays.

I read today that PAL PS2\'s could actually read ALL PAL DVD\'s - so my European PS2 should actually be able to read Australian R4 discs. I haven\'t tried it though.

But all PS2\'s should be able to read R0 DVD\'s (\'all-region\' DVD).

It says in the manual that it only can play DVD\'s that is marked with Region "2" and Region "ALL".

Man... Why do we have different tv-systems?

Keep everthing free!!!

Well, my work here is done.

All i have to say is ROFL!!! Thats a very good question. And I just like to point out that I hope it works cause if you paid 50 bucks for Hentai DVDs and its doesnt work, then that would suck. Yes to the people who didnt know LA BLUE GIRLS is a Hentai Movie, it is. Whats Hentai? Hentai = Animated Porn.
Anyways, Im not trying to embaress the guy who started this thread. because me and fellow post-er ryu is going to a gaming/video store to also get the LA Blue Girl series...or some other kind of hentai dvd.....So I hope it works cuz if it doesnt then that will suck ..for both you...and me...and RYU...
I will end this post by saying....Gohan ...nice picture =D DBZ RULES!!!!
Oro?!?

The DVD movies are split into regions because the greedy movie companies wants to control the \'flow\' of their movies. So that a movie just released in cinemas across Europe can\'t be bought on DVD from USA. Yep, it sucks. But that\'s why we have PC DVD drives... :D
