PS2-Equipped Ford Heads to CES

From Daily Radar
And we thought cell phones caused a lot of accidents. A new hazard awaits technology\'s early adopters: How about a Ford Lincoln Navigator equipped with a PlayStation2? That\'s just one of the in-vehicle goodies that will be on display at at the annual Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 6-9.
A pair of new Navigators demonstrating networked consumer electronics and computer products linked over the new automotive-grade IDB-1394 multimedia standard will be on show in the 1394 Trade Association exhibit. Besides the PS2, the Navigator also features an interchangeable CD player, camcorder and DVD. A customer convenience port built into the network backbone lets users plug in electronic devices, such as a notebook computer or handheld device, using the same cable that is used in the home.

Down the corridor in 10169, the IDB Forum\'s exhibit, will be Mack\'s Vision model truck, with an 18-inch flat panel and touch panel displays from Planar Systems, DVD system and CD changer from Panasonic, Fujitsu CD/MD audio system, Motorola iDEN telephone, Rand McNally Palm V, Sony camcorder, VST hard disk drive and other systems running on plastic optical fiber from Sumitomo under an interface module, called DHIVA, developed by Digital Harmony Technologies. DHIVA also is in use in the Navigator.

"These in-vehicle multimedia exhibits demonstrate the potential of the IDB-1394 specification to provide complete, easy-to-use, multimedia connectivity in cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles," said IDB Forum Executive Director Arlan Stehney. "IDB-1394 is the most efficient, powerful standard for these exciting applications, and we\'re pleased to be able to show both the Mack Truck and the Lincoln Navigator at CES."

This sucks. I was already saving up to get a Navigator and now I have to save up to get the one with a PS2. Well I\'m going to be in debt when I get it any way so why not be in debt with a PS2?

I know this is off-topic but how are the Durangos\'? I don\'t really like the looks of them but I heard they ride like a champ.

BTW, It should only be a month or two before they are able to put them in any car. Unless Sony has a partnership with Lincoln.

Hello, Onstar. What game would you like to play Batman?

I don\'t think it\'s all that bad of an idea as long as they keep the game playing limited to the passenger seats.. or at least add a saftey mechanism that switches off the PS2 when you put your car in gear.

The PS2 can not be played in the front seat. From past experiance the game usually goes in the space between the Driver and Passenger seats with the screen right above it or on the back of the Driver and Passenger headrests.

Well Gohan.
I wouldn\'t trade mine for nothin\':) I\'ve had it for 2 years now and the only problem I had was with the ashtray (bad design 98\' model). I personally love the look of them. Mine\'s red with step bars, mud flaps, and a liscense that reads... PS2-4US:D

Switch on the "fly" 4wd, is a blessing here in MN.

My two prized material possesions, PS2 and Durango.

IDB.........SUV............123.....XYZ......IT DOESNT MATTER!!!! ..................the Rock is cool ^_^.....Aneways, all i have to say is......UMMM KAY.....why would you NEED all that stuff in a car......ITS A CAR.....you drive from POINT A to POINT B. ITs not like your going to be living in it.......well from the price tags on these fancy deathmobiles , ull end up living in it cuz u wont be able to afford anething else after buying one......like food, a house, clothes, a shower!!! ROFL aneways, i guess rich people need to have those extra luxories even tho 99.9 % of the time they wont be using it. I mean come on.........A ps2 in a navigator....so you rather be playing a ps2 bunched up in ur car then playing it in ur room where u can relax and be half nekkid?? And wat would be the point aneways, since its UR car and Ull be driving....wat are u going to do ....have one hand on the controller the other on ur steering wheel, and have one eye glued to the microscopic tv and the other on the road....but like I said , rich people need to show off in their fancy cars but sensible people like us well just be like....wow nice car.....oh well la di da di da..and go about our every day lives. And if u are actually saving to buy a Navigator gohan......then u must be really rich...........GRRRRRRRRRRRR DOWN WITH THE RICH PEOPLE!!!!! =P .................................one more thing...nice pic gohan......DBZ RULES!!!
Oro?!?

Shin. No offence, but grow up.

I\'m not "rich", by any means. I have a family, and no matter what you may think, we are safer in my vehicle than in a "normal" car.

It\'s dumba$$ people that can\'t drive that get hurt and killed in SUV\'s. Would you rather be in a neon or bug during a 65Mph crash?

It\'s not about showing off, but there\'s nothing wrong in taking some pride in things that you work hard for. Entertainment devices in vehicles are meant to entertain your kids or other passengers, not for the driver.

I drove a freaking Geo Storm 4-banger for seven years before I got my Durango. Family expansion calls for more room and in the crappy weather up here 4wd is safer, period.

I was thinking of installing a PS1 in my Pathfinder.  Im going to install on of those 4 inch LCDs, and I know there is a way to hook stuff up to it.  Now that would be cool, or when the PS2 goes down in price, hook one of those up and have a game system and a DVD player in my truck.

Now, I just need the money...  Anyone, support the "Kirath PSX2 in his truck foundation"  I will be accepting donations.

aneways cygnus, whooop di doo for you. YAY your real mature , you have ur own family WOOHOOO. Dont give me none of ur grow up bs. I was saying you dont need all that stuff in a car, thats MY opinion. I respect that you have a family and that u feel u are protected in ur SUV. Good for you for thinking about your family. But you dont need to have a whole entertainment systems in your car, esp when you are simply driving from point a to point b.
As for u statement "Would you rather be in a neon or bug during a 65Mph crash? " I dont think there is much difference in a neon or a bug. I personally drive a 4 door Civic and I like my car very much. And if your really looking out for ur family.........GET A CARAVAN........save that money for something more useful, like ur kids college fund.
And just cuz ur in a SUV doesnt mean your totally protected. Ex: I seen on the news how a guy diriving his Ford Explorer got killed after colliding with a corolla. The guy in the corolla lived, while the guy in the explorer died. See driving a SUV doesnt necessarily make it safer for you.
Oro?!?

Got no time for dumbasses. Little mental midget, learn how to spell and type and even complete thoughts in sentences, and maybe get past puberty too before you get on dad\'s computer you ****.

Yay!! i can b a dumas 2:D

I said "no offence" before. If you can\'t express your "opinion" without throwing up flames and disrespect to those of a different opinion then expect it. And, BTW, your post up there is loaded with BS that you push off as "fact of the matter".

1100 posts to your 26...  I know its not that important but Im just saying.  I think your picking the wrong fight here.  Choose your battles wisely and this is not wise.  Don\'t fight over stoopid stuff like this.....

I drive and SUV and I feel alot safer in that then I did in my Ex-GF bug...  People die all the time nothing is perfectly safe, just safer, and thats what he was trying to say..

But this is not my fight so peace out....
