Hmmm, I wonder how many have (or plan to) purchase PS2 remotes in preference to using the gamepad?

The fact that having a remote to use a built in feature is not a requirement is a big factor in my book.

I agree,
why can\'t you use a controller if you want to,
not everybody is a hardcore DVD user

No, but then the XBox is a games machine first. I don\'t see the big deal in purchasing a cheap remote control if I want to watch DVD movies.

The PS2 is a game machine as well.  Making it to where it can play DVD\'s out of the box or with the aid of a remote doesn\'t make it any less of a DVD player.  I\'m sure the fact that it is a DVD player will be a major selling point of the system and a huge justification for its bloated cost, which will be at the least, 299.  Does it matter how you word it, DVD first, game machine first, blah blah.  Who cares when most of the X-Box\'s games are PS2 ports?

most of ps2 games are pc ports or dc.

the only ones that might be worth a dam are Konami\'s games and squares final fantasy the rest are crap even gt3 or should i say the late gt2000.aka gt2 tracks.

to there are ways to give the illusion of AA,without having to take cuts in performance, and some developers are are taking advantage of themhowever ,until SOny comes up with a specific and easy ways to implement true AA that dosent take major hits on performance, you probably wont be seeing a huge number of games take advantage of it.

Hehe, Konami\'s games, a good 20 or so titles, Final Fantasy, possibly the biggest selling console game to date, The Bouncer, Klonoa 2, Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2, and a few others are not PC or DC ports... 30+ games that are not PC or DC ports sounds like more then enough reason to buy a console.  Hell, I know people on this board who would buy PS2 JUST for MGS2.  Also, don\'t hit me with the crap "MGSX will be on X-Box, blah blah" you\'re right, it will...

about a year after the PS2 release.

yep, if you dobnt want one, dont get one its that easy, i got one "the saitek one" because i ratrher hold a remote in my hand and put it on my lap than have to pick up and put down, do al this crap with a control, when it was in my living room, you think i was gonna walk back and forth back and forth to reach the remote everywhere i walked, hell no,i rather carrie a remote in my pocket than to buy 2 extention cords for my controller lol, its that simple, the remote is more convienient, and if you dont like them fine, then dont, its one mans opinion over abnother, and the ps2 wil do fine hdd or not, even if it didnt hve one it would just be as good, i swear, to me hdd isnt that important,

RYU I completly agree with you...

For starters making "add-ons" which generally become requirements for new games isn\'t what i\'d expect from sony, fine the HDD might be for the internet and saved games but to have it as a must for playing games isn\'t on.

Patches are a definate no in my opinion. I purchased a PS2 to get away from the buggy games of PCs. As soon as you add patches you start to gain incompatablity problems (for exampe two differnet people using two different versions of the tekken tag patch, this could cause problems).

As for the XBOX DVD remote, it wouldn\'t of been hard for them to allow you to use the controller, with the remote as an optional extra. By not doing this, and only including the remote they know that you are bound to probly get a remote even if its just for a few DVDs, so basically its a money making scheme.

I suppose the same could be said for memory cards (£30 here for a memory card which is essential for playing nearly all PS2 games).

As for the PS2 games, there are some really good titles coming up and not all are ports, try reading some internet gaming sites for more details, im sure the same can be said about the XBox as well.

I think some of you are forgetting a certain little Sony habit, updating hardware. In the several different models of PSX, Sony has bumped up Mhz, changed CD lazer orientation, updated bios, changed outputs, and finally miniaturized the whole package. It\'s very likely that the HDD will be an add-on ONLY for those who bought their PS2 early on. Since Sony plans to relaunch the PS2 in March (Around the same time they said they\'d like their online strategy to go into effect), it\'s entirely possible that the HDD will be built into the box at that time or shortly after. Phil Harrison already eluded to this point in an interview with Core Magazine several months ago.

It is also entirely possible that Sony will set up a "Seganetesqe" deal where they give you the harddrive for free if you sign up for their service.
