DL games to the HDD?
« on: January 11, 2001, 12:08:34 AM »
I wonder if sony would let us DL games we buy onto the Ps2 HDD?....is that a crime?....we could DL them to the HDD and never even us the drive to play games...

but then again, i could buy a game and let all of my friends DL to their HDD...

so what do you guys think? would you like this feature? walk in and just turn on the PS2 and game loads from the HDD?
. I\'ve said it before and I\'ll say it again, in terms of ingenuity, exclusivity, and console competition, X-Box brings nothing to the table except a fat wad of cash and some rehashed PC components wrapped with a DC controller and a plastic black box.----RYU

One of the perks Sony usually mentions when talking about the advantages of having a HDD with the PS2 is the ability to download episodic games and demos, so unless something changes drasically you will be able to play games off the PS2\'s HDD. I just hope whatever browser they use manage the HDD will be flexible enough to allow hackers to make user friendly emulators for older PC&Console games.

I desperately need a stable and static hardware platform to store my collection of old games. Damned Windows keeps crashing if I stay too long in MS-Dos mode. :(

Well it would be nice to DL complete games, but i dont think it will be quite that way. What if you downloaded 4 games off of the net? That would be at the very least 2.6 gig. Thats a hefty chunk of hd space in my opinion. I think the episodic content will be downloadable as well as new tracks characters demos ect.. But complete games may not be all that feasible. What they may do though is allow you to purchase the game online, then download it a few weeks before you could get it in stores and then mail you the disc so you have a hard copy of the game.
I\'m kinda skeptical about getting a game and then letting you friends download it to their hard drive as well. This could literally destroy software sales, especially when someone figures out how to transfer data to the monsterous computer hard drives that are going to be out at the time.
The dex hard drive transfer tool ?
Im guessing that even if you can download certain games to your hard drive that a key component on the cd will be needed to actually play the game. This should keep people from just passing games around the neighborhood...well most people anyhow.
Shareware games could be cool too..

I can\'t recall if it was Konami, Square or Capcom, but some of the big companies were talking about doing research on episodic games, with a continuation released for download every month or so.

I don\'t care much about that, but it would be cool if you could download for example more cars for Gran Turismo 4, or get more Half-Life skins and arenas. Hmm... kinda PC\'y... :)
