HYPE! damn hype does it everytime....

PS2\'s launch was a success and they are virtually destined to dominate the market once again. I\'ve thought about the psychological aspect that one of the PR reps said in the article "PS2 Launch: Success or Failure?" about how it was impossible to not feel completely satisfied with the actual products due to the massive amount of hype. After hearing him say this, it seems that I was thinking somewhat the same thing and it\'s true. All the while fans were waiting for ps2 they were feeding information (heavily influenced by hype) into their minds and building it all up into some extraordinary fantasy that they hoped would come true but unlike our minds, reality has it\'s boundaries.

The lack of hardware is no big deal, this did not hurt Sony or the PS2 in a big way, it merely kept them from obliterating the Dreamcast and gaining an instant stranglehold of the market. The point is, the PS2 is a very strong system, with guranteed AAA titles coming throughout the rest of the year and hardware is finally going to be catching up with demand. Already in my area the PS2 is becoming more available. Things are indeed looking brighter for Sony everyday.

it took me awhile to realize the difference between hype and reality

but by launch I knew what too expect and such.

No one could call the PS2 launch a failure, all you can really say is it didn\'t go as planned.

but goto other forums and discuss this and they\'ll argue it to no end.

I agree. People blame Sony and say that it was a crappy launch but that is about as far from the truth as anything. The launch was a huge success and Sony got out more units to the people at launch than any other company had. The shortage was not Sony\'s fault, but was the result of the massive hype surrounding the system. Plenty of units got out there, they were just snapped up a quickly as they got on the shelves. I pity any fool who thinks that the launch was a failure.

I pity the fool that thinks the launch was a success.  It was neither a success or failure, but rather a combination of both.  Either way, the gamers got what they wanted on October 26th, 2000.  They got a 150 dollar Dreamcast
Respect your fellow gamers simply because they enjoy playing videogames just like you.

Ok, I don\'t know what you did, or how you did it, but stop it.

Not sure I understand what you are trying so hard to say here ruptureutin.

but SOnys launch was quite succesful. Actually it was the most successful launch of all time. It just didn\'t go as SOny planned it.

Sony still provided more games and more units for a NA launch that anyone else had ever.

The only negative is SOny could\'ve sold 2 or 3x\'s as many if they could\'ve produced them fast enough.
