Who got NBA Live 2001 and what do you think?

I think it\'s ok. Nothing to write home about. I guess I\'m a little disapointed in the create a player because they got rid of the headbands and funny glasses. Now it is time to lead my beloved bulls to the playofs.

I won\'t buy it because it doesn\'t have a franchise mode.  Sports games are much more fun if you can lead the same team for more than one season.

thats true but by the time I finish my season triple play should be out so i will put all my sports game attention into that. thats how it usually works for me. as soon as i finish one season, the next new sports game is coming out.

i didnt really like it so i sent it back and got all my money back. After cussing the hell out of a Funcoland employee. I bought it and played it for about 1 hour and went back to funcoland dissapointed. The guy said i can get 20 dollars store credit and i said fu*k that i want my 54 dollars back. I told him that you saw me hear an hour ago to by this game, why cant i give me my money. Then he said because its been used. Then i remembered playing 1 on 1 and it took me 1 min to figure out how to select people. So i told the guy that i bought a defected game, and that the 1 on 1 wont let you select a player. He said why didnt you tell me this earlier, then i said, because if i told you, you would probably think that i messed up the game. So the guy went in the back and played it and said, your right the 1 on 1 doesnt work properly and gave me my money.

I hate to say it but NBA2k1 might have it here.

Seriously!  Our forums died at just the most inappropriate time.  I checked out some other websites to get some feedback on this game.  Overall reviews were poor,...but my gut reaction was "these folks are not the members at PSX2Central and therefore they have no idea what they are talking about!"  And with our own forums down, and unable to pitch the question to you, I found myself scoping out the last copy of NBA Live 2001 on the shelf of TRU the other night.  Ooooh...last copy!  Awww...those other sites don\'t know what their talking about!  This is the series NBA Live, right?  This is by EA Sports, right?  This is the same group of developers that made Madden 2001, right?  Surely, (I thought staring across from the last copy on the shelf) this game will be quality!!!

What did I find when I got home?  A "shiny" version of any NBA Live PSX title I\'ve ever played.  Oooh...the disgust!  Players "skating" against one another.  Inconsistent controls.  Slow, mediocre, (and worse...uniform for basically every player) animations/movements.  It all just reeked of poor quality.  

Let\'s watch out!  EA did this before during the Genesis/SNES wars.  It put out a good few 1st games then stunk on a stick!  Remember!  EA was going to put out a pack-o-dung Madden then pulled it when they saw 989 Studios Gameday effort for the PSX.  So let\'s see, with the PS2 we have Madden 2001 (excellent IMHO).  Then you have Nascar 2001 (hmmm...kinda PSX\'y at best w/o draw-in), FIFA 2001 (actually looks great, but not sure how it plays since I ain\'t a soccer lover -- at least, not knowing the rules, I\'ve yet to buy a soccer game), and now I\'ve tried NBA Live 2001 (pure suck on a stick...also IMHO).  So, EA\'s battin\' 500 in my book.  Not exactly great odds when I plan on looking at the next EA title to hit the shelves.  Face it, I\'ll rent the next EA title before I buy it!!!

BTW, I returned the open game to TRU in much the same way as CelliCeL...except without all the profanity.  Actually, I didn\'t hold back on most of the above sentiment and the manager on duty was more than willing to return it as a defective item.  We both agreed to accept that it *was* defective given that it didn\'t represent the level of gaming that should be on the PS2.

Used my credit to purchase the last copy of ONI on the shelf...  Let\'s hope this fares better!!!

NBA2k1 is a better game than NBA Live 2001! The controls are very weak and even the graphics are not as good as NBA2k1.  After what was shown with madden I thought this would be a better game but your right....it\'s just a polished version of the PSX version.

Now that Sega is developing for the PS2 EA is gonna have to work for thier money! The freakin voiceovers in the Triple play series are 3 years old....they have the same crap playing over and over! Besides the Triple play series should be scrapped....I\'ve been a baseball fan for 12 years and that is not baseball!

Triple Play absolutley sucks.  It is not a simulation, but an arcade game instead.  I love the High Heat baseball series for the PC.  They do have their flaws, but nothing like Triple Play.

agreed Merkin High Heat is absolutely the best baseball game around!

For example, I simulated a whole season just for kicks to compare the stats of the players two years ago and guess what showed up?  Big Mac hits 71 homers AND that was before he broke the damn record!! You just can\'t come any closer than that!

NHL 2001 doesn\'t have franchise mode either, does it?  Why would EA make Madden with a franchise mode and NBA Live or NHL 2001 without it?

On my way to return it as soon as I get off the computer..  How can you play an "ALL-STAR" game without the proper uniforms!!!!!  This totally depresses me because I had NBA 2K1 and gave it to my cousin.  I guess i better keep my DC games handy just in case PS2 starts to screw around and put out more lousy games... I guess EA didn\'t take the time to think this title out.....

At least all my racing games were up to par with what I was expecting...

nobody has mentioned the lack of refs and coaches ea promised.  youu\'ll notice the players will go over too where the refs SHOULD BE to argue a call, but no ref. HA!

i\'ve also "heard" that if you go end the fourth quarter w/ a tie the computer gets the victory.  NO OVERTIME!

(i wouldn\'t know i have yet too finish a game )

plus all the cut sequences are VERY annouying (my spelling as well )

and who does the voices for the players gosh...

one more thing... glad too see that i wasn\'t the only one stomped one the player selection etc.  i bet it took 45 mins too figure out you had to press [_] (my attempt at a square) to activate the menu.

Hehehe. Now that 989 has turned up the suck notch. And even the mighty EA has turned to poo, maybe we will see better versions of their next games when they have to battle Sega Sports, which will be multiplatofrm also. It will be interesting.
