The Saga Continues! (HK interview Part 2!)
« on: February 07, 2001, 05:58:17 PM »
I\'m not even gonna post the whole interview here, but I will post the most interesting excerpts.  Very revealing (and very pleasing) to hear so many geat things from one of the greatest game developers in gaming history.  Anyways, on with the bits:

Concerning MGS2\'s PS2 release:

We\'re developing it for release this year—that\'s 100% certain. It\'s the year of the snake so we have to release it this year!

In terms of the games music:

Ah—well what we\'re doing with the music is quite interesting. We map out the entire game in terms of \'scenes\', and also what Snake is doing at any given time. So for example, one scene might be Snake sneaking into a dangerous area. We show that to Harry-san and he\'ll compose the music for that. We\'ll have him compose slices of melody or even just a rhythm, and we have a bunch of these for any particular level or area, so we can then take them and paste them onto what\'s happening in the game in real time. It works nicely, as you heard, though sometimes Harry-san has composed a linear piece so well that we brush it up an fit a game scene to it!

On AI and the amount of power MGS2 is using on the ps2:

We really can\'t break it up like that in terms of numbers. The basic point is, when you have a machine with as much power as PS2, the issue is not one of how much you of the system\'s power you\'re using but more one of time and money. If we were allowed to spend five years on the game we could create something much more awesome than you see here. What we end up with is really a compromise of time and money, more than a limitation of the PS2\'s power itself.

On the inclusion of multiple languages for the games release:

Unfortunately not—because there\'s over three times the amount of voice in MGS2 than in MGS1, so it just wouldn\'t fit!

On the new female villain:

We can\'t release anything about her background yet, as things are always changing. But we can say her name\'s Olga.

On Metal Gear Solid 3:

If we made a Metal Gear Solid 3, there would be two approaches. First of all I could work on the game as the director myself and make a true MGS3. But more likely if it happened, I would work more as a producer like Sakaguchi-san works on the Final Fantasy games, and let a younger, new director take on the main creative duties. If that happens, it\'ll be MGS3, but it won\'t be a \'Kojima\' Metal Gear—it\'ll work more as the vision of someone else. Personally speaking, I\'d like to work on something else as there are quite a few fresh ideas building in my own drawer.

On what exactly the X-Box version of MGSX is:

First of all, Konami USA and Konami Europe don\'t have any information on this whatsoever. I don\'t know if they\'ve commented yet, but if they have you can take it from me that it\'s nonsense because we ourselves haven\'t made a decision on that yet. Right now we\'re just too busy working on the PS2 game I\'m afraid!

On GameCube, X-Box, and the PS2:

Honestly speaking, the X-Box, GameCube, and PS2 are pretty much the same for me. Obviously each machine has it\'s advantages, but I mean they\'re not introducing anything wildly new like say smell. I guess we\'ll have wait for the next generation for features like that!

here is the full interview for all you people who are as interested as I am in all this beautiful information: http://www.sonyweb.com/features/kojima02.html

I hope you found that as cool (and informative!) as I have, man, this game makes me want to shoot a load!

I wonder what new ideas Kojima is thinking about. Probably some great ones!!

Nothing here I would imagine but this is going to royally confuse the Xbox community. :)

Last week part 1:  MGSX = Parts of MGS and MGS2 combined

Part 2: It is a lie.

2 days ago:  Don\'t count on MGSX being MGS2 or don\'t count on MGSX at all (depending on how you read it)

Yesterday:  MGSX is MGS2 with enhancments

Today:  MGSX who?

Lets drop the MGSX stuff
By the time MGSX does make it to XBox we will  have played MGS2 a 1/2 dozen times and nobody will care anymore

Werd.  Please don\'t focus on that one little part of the interview.  It is interesting to know, but that should be as far as it should go in this thread.  Isn\'t anyone amazed that the tanker demo we\'ll get in March is about only 5% of the game and can last an hour?!  Isn\'t it great that all the music is action\\scene specific?!  Then there\'s 3x\'s as much speaking as in MGS1!!  Man, that\'s just insane!

when i saw that MGS2 will hopefully release in the year 2001 i nearly "shot a load" myself. Too bad they wont be able to fit the japanese voices along with teh english ones but to hear that the voice acting will be three times as long as mgs1, that definitely makes up for it. NOw all i can think about is for the demo to release with ZOE...MGS2 this year WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Oro?!?
