The Reverend\'s Sermon: Why Dost the Reverend Come to PS2Central?

I read that question from one of the kinder members of this wonderfully constructed forum.  It was a good question that I believed warranted a serious reply.  Well, first of all, the Reverend believes that this is THE best unofficial PS2 website their is on the web.  Another reason is because the Reverend has become hooked on to this forum.  It feels like home to the Reverend and my ministry would not be complete without my visit to this wonderful forum.  However my crusade is one of truth and of vigilance.  I come not to tell you not to buy this system or to buy that system, but I come to dispell any falsehoods spread by the anti-Microsoft zealots...most of whom visit PS2Central.  Fanboy or not, you must admit that their are hordes of anti-Microsoft cronies on these boards that spread lie after malicious lie about the company and their latest game console.  As an Xbox evangelist and multi-console gamer (read: Nintendo and Sega games) I must uphold the truth when a lie is thrusted forth or when an opinion is advertised as truth.  What doth the Reverend mean by this?

Well, for the sake of explaining myself, I\'ll use this example:

From an anti-Microsoft zealot(Note: This is JUST an EXAMPLE...NOT A REAL CASE!!!:

I hate the Xbox!  Why do Microsoft try to put their hand in every pot!  They feel as if they have to do everything.  They shouldn\'t be making games!  The Xbox will suck!  Xbox will be expensive because I say so!  It will be a portbox with nothing but PC ports.  It\'s nothing but old PC parts thrown together, that\'s why it sucks!  Xbox will have no exclusives so Xbox will die!!  

This is what I call the Type A rumor.  Type A rumors are Microsoft bash rumors.  Now why does the Reverend reply to these?  Well, simply because the more innocent casual gamers browsing these boards may read these posts and believe that this is the case and that they shouldn\'t buy an Xbox because they ASSUME this to be true.  Although, it is up to the reader to discern the validity of what he reads, the Reverend feels responsible for those that lack that discernment.  Here\'s how I would reply:

Well, you zealot, I can tell that you don\'t know what you\'re talking about and that you\'re probably just spouting this BS because you\'re anti-Microsoft.  First off, why does Sony have to put their hand in every pot too?  They make VCR\'s, TV\'s, stereos, DVD players, movies, and music!  If that\'s not having your hand in every pot, I don\'t know what is!  Like Sony, Microsoft realizes that they could make a killing in the lucrative videogame industry.  Their a software company and Xbox is a software console with the unfortunate hardware issues to deal with.  Believe me, if Microsoft could create Xbox software that emulated the machine, they would do so, however that\'s impossible.

Xbox will have PC ports like the PS2, GC and like the DC has already.  They\'re inevitable.  I see you zealots bashing Xbox and saying it\'s a PC portbox while hyping up Giants: Citizen Kabuto for the PS2.  Isn\'t that a PC port?  What about Unreal Tournament?  Oni?  The fact of the matter is that every console will have PC ports.  The only question is the quality of the port.  Will it be a straight port or use the system\'s added features and have added levels and such?  As far as exclusives go, I will reiterate my stance on this subject: WAIT UNTIL AFTER ALL THE MAJOR INDUSTRY SHOWS ARE OVER BEFORE YOU COME TO A CONCLUSION!!  This is after E3.  I will say no more about that.

There you have it, a fact-filled and hype free response from the Reverend.  See, how I used simple logic and reason without making personal attacks against the anti-Microsoft zealot.  However, since I have "Xbox" suffixed to my name, I have to put up with this:

Then, like flies to a carcass, the Reverend is ganged up upon.  If you noticed, in my reply to the false xbox post, neither did I promote Xbox or did I bash the PS2.  I just fought facts with ignorance and I still get bashed.  This shows the maturity level of this forum and of the game playing audience as a whole.  I can carry on a civil rebuttal at the 2Wire forums, or any other intelligent forum without being bashed mercilessly because my views are different from the others.

Here\'s a Type B post that I usually respond to:

Sony can\'t fail!  Although the launch didn\'t live up to people\'s expectations, PS2 will still be a success!  Don\'t worry, the great games are coming...just wait a while.  PS2 is a guaranteed success and because Sony sold 80 million PSX\'s, they will sell 80 million PS2\'s!  Sony\'s not having finacial troubles and they are guaranteed to win the console wars!  So don\'t worry, just go buy a PS2!

Well, this is obviously an opinion.  However, hype is contagious and a casual gamer could accept this as fact.  The Reverend\'s response would be like this:

Well, well, aren\'t we presumptous today?  I wouldn\'t jump to that conclusion just yet.  Sony didn\'t have good competition back in the days of the PSX and just because they sold 80 million PSX\'s doesn\'t mean they\'ll meet or exceed that number with the PS2.  You might want to wait until Xbox and GameCube hit the market before you make your choice.

That was short, yet sweet.  Without bashing or being condesending(sp?), I tactfully corrected the thinking of the PS2Zealot without insulting him.  My rule is this: In any argument, the first man to resort to personal attacks is the first to lose.  I intend to stick by that.  However, I also expect this too:

What is the Reverend supposed to do about that but ignore then until after E3 rolls around so that we can do the annual "Compare the Screenshots" and "Guess the PolyCount" and watch guys like this flame in desperation.

So in conclusion, the reason I come here is to DEFEND THE TRUTH.  I also come here because I like this forum and most of the members on it.  You must admit that a LIE is a LIE no matter what forum you\'re on or what console you back (who backs a game console anyway?).  The fact of the matter is that wherever LIES are, the Reverend will be also.  Thank You.
