Finally, some WWF SmackDown3 News!
« on: February 11, 2001, 08:01:36 PM »
This comes directly from http://www.wrestlegames.com[/u][/i][/b]

I decided to follow a lead thanks to an anonymous e-mail I received and what you are about to read is the official press release by THQ regarding the game. The release is dated the 5th of January, 2001 so it has not been released to the general public as of yet. But after delving deep, I have discovered that this news is 100% legit. Keep in mind, this is the FIRST REAL NEWS we have recieved about Smackdown 3. Here is the press release:

WWF SMACKDOWN 3: OVER THE EDGE ANNOUNCED

THQ Inc. and Jakks Pacific today announced WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge for the Playstation 2 game console. A sequel to the immensely popular WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role, based on World Wrestling Federation Entertainment\'s top-rated UPN program and ranked the number one selling Playstation title for the fourth quarter of 2000 according to NPD TRSTS Video Game Service, WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge is scheduled to ship in summer, 2001.

Developed by Yukes, Co. Ltd., of Japan, WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge boasts expanded featured including all new storylines and gameplay modes such as the deadly Inferno Match as well as a Buried Alive mode. WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge immensely adds to WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role\'s modes including a full-sized Hell In A Cell Match, as well as the ability to have a total of 8 WWF Superstars on the screen at once in the popular 4 Way Tag Team Match where by using 2 Sony Multitap 2\'s, you and up to 7 friends can play at the same time.

A new up-to-date roster allows players to select one of 80 WWF Superstars including The Rock, Triple H, and newcomers such as Raven and William Regal, each with their own signature moves. By using Create-A-Superstar Mode, players can build their own wrestlers with customized characteristics including height and weight, physical appearance, personality, and detailed move selection, and for the first time on a console, you will be able to put your own face in the game using Digi-Mask Technology. Breathtaking Playstation 2 graphics and effects such as lighting, shadows, and skin textures bring the World Wrestling Federation to the Playstation 2.

"After the phenomenal success of the Playstation chart-topping WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role, late last year, it is clear we expect to have another mega-hit with WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge, but obviously on Playstation 2." said Alison Locke, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for THQ. "We have improved on a winning combination of the number one sports entertainment license, and the top Playstation wrestling development team by adding exciting new modes and features to make this the must-have title for the 2001 summer season."

"From the success of our first hit, WWF Wrestlemania 200 for Nintendo 64 through this past year\'s WWF Smackdown, WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role, and WWF No Mercy, the popularity just keeps intensifying." stated Jennifer Richmond, Vice-Presiden of Marketing for JAKKS Pacific Inc. "The World Wrestling Federation has become an icon of popular culture and makes for great synergy between the worlds of interactive entertainment, toys, and action figures."

"A major part of WWFE\'s overall corporate strategy includes building extensions of our most popular brands. WWF Smackdown 3: Over The Edge will benefit from an extremely loyal following as well as tremendous brand recognition among WWF fans. THQ and JAKKS have again done an outstanding job at capturing the spirit of the show for Playstation gamers. As with the original game, they have shown that they truly understand the unique personality and subtleties of our product and I believe our fans are going to be very excited with the end result." said Jim Byrne, Senior Vice-President of marketing for WWFE.

Phew, that\'s a lot of typing!! lol. Anyway, that\'s basically it, with the exception of 2 small paragraphs at the end basically stating what each company does. But I hope you like this little stocking stuffer as much as I enjoyed giving it to you!

By the way things look, Smackdown 3 looks like it\'s going to be incredible!! I couldn\'t help but notice that Yuke\'s will be a part of this game as well. I must say, I like the engine they\'ve used for the past 2 SD games. I just hope they fix the things that weren\'t right with Smackdown 2.

Hmmmmm. Maybe it\'s called "over the Edge" beacause they got some info that Edge might be in the World Title picture by then. You know it\'s only a matter of time for him. Just a thought.

That\'d be extremely awesome, but it said that there would only be a maximum of 8 wrestlers on the screen. Sucks, don\'t it?
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Max of 8 (EIGHT!), I\'m not really a big fan of wrestling games, but only 8 wrestlers on screen at once in a PS2 game seems pretty pathetic - unless those individual wrestler models are out of this world...

oh crap now i gotta wipe off my keyboard

I don\'t know why you people are dissing the SD1,2 engine. I think its great. Besides adding a few new moves I don\'t think there is anything they should change. The Wrestlemania 2000 engine sucks a$$ IMO. The whole locking up thing is a load of crap.

the problems are the:
sound ( annoying music )
damage ( i hit a guy with a sledge hammer 10 times hes still up. i throw a couch at him hes still up i put him through the HIAC he gets right up! )
entrences( i want pyro efects , and to see them walking down the ramp givin high fives)

Things that would be cool:
In-crowd fighting
When wrestlers enter crowd holds up signs.
Crowd cheers
announcing
Better Royal Rumbmle

Ok yes those are very true. Weapons should do more damage. As should putting someone through a hell is a cell. The music is annoying at parts. Pyro would be nice. I don\'t really mind if they walk down the ramp or not.

In-crowd fighting would be nice. Signs don\'t really matter. The crowd already does cheer, but chants would be nice(SLUT! SLUT! SLUT!) Announcing would be cool as hell but only as long as it isn\'t the same thing over and over. Royal Rumble is fine as it is but more moves should throw people over(suplex, chokeslam)

All of those things would be nice but none of them(except the weapon damage) have anything to do with the game engine.

It would be funny though to have King and JR sitting at the announce tables and you could go over to them and put them through a table if they said something bad about you.

To add to that list I would say:

All moves can put people through a table(suplex, rock bottom, olympic slam, pedigree, chokeslam)

ya i\'ve tried that a few times but they usually get up. its just a matter of beating the crap out of them first.

Try a Senton Bomb off the cell onto the announce table.

The entrances are supposed to be spectacular, as opposed to seeing wrestlers walk in front of their titan tron videos.
