The playstation has changed things forever. With the realism of even ps games, people have started to take notice. My technician at work (at the very least 45 years old) just came up to me yesterday and was like "hey where were you last night when i needed you" i was puzzled but he soon said, " I was stuck on this dam one part of syphon filter and kept alerting guards that were escorting some guy"...or something to that extent. It seems he got the psone for his daughter but decided to try a few games and really enjoys playing it when he has some free time. My other friend is 43 and a very, very accomplished tekken player. With this next generation of systems coming out we take one more step towards games that are more engrossing and have better stories than a movie. In all honesty movies are great, but with games like the first silent hill and metal gear solid you became part of the movie. The story was gripping and the gameplay tight and in the case of silent hill a hell of alot scarier than any movie i have ever seen. Movie directors probably took a few hints from mr. kojima on how to tell a story as well. The original metal gear logged in with approximately 3 times as much dialouge as your average hollywood action movie. Combine this with the fact that it blended seamlessly with the gameplay and you have a title that is more engrossing than 3 five star movies and quite a bit longer for that matter.
We mid 20 gamers maybe the first to play video games throughout our life, but as games get more advanced you will see alot of older folks, whom never ever played those silly blocky looking games, wanting to be part of the movie instead of watching it. The same goes with sports titles. I may get flamed for this but hte nfl is one big snooze fest in my opinion. run a play wait 40 seconds run a play , wait 40 seconds. Tv timeouts and the endless banter of the announcers will put me to sleep every time. On the flip side give me a game with ultra realistic graphics, fairly easy to pick up gameplay, and some decent commentary and you give me monthes upon monthes of being the football star. And its a hell of alot more fun to actually beat your buddy at a sports title than to watch helplessly as some other people hundreds of miles away decide the outcome of the game. (which they can give a **** about as long as they get there endorsement deal or run for enough yards to get that bonus)
Thats all.
P.S. For all you other old school gamers out there my dad and i still fire up some astosmash once in a while. I still lose, and he still has fun....he\'s 64
