Sony Sues For use Of their Name
« on: February 13, 2001, 01:39:18 PM »
I saw this on Slashdot then I read the artice on it.  I was not really that surprised a lot of big companys have tried to sue over the use of their company name in Domain Names.  Most of them have lost.  Sony will loose to on this.  Goto 2600.com and you will multiple cases of this..

here are the articles..

Very smart Sony...

Very smart. Screw over the fans who are supporting and helping you become more popular. Very smart move.

I can see Sony being upset, if the guy advirtised the site  as the offical PS2 site--but he doesn\'t. So, Sony may as well get over it or start taking every site with PS2 in its domain to court.

I\'d only sue if the site came out after the PS2 was released.

WWFgames.com had to change its name because WWF made them.

Well, Nintendo should be a bit more paranoid because their major franchises (which are followed by a lot of young kids) are used in the domain\'s of porn sites.  So, Nintendo can kind of be forgiven for some of the stuff even though some of it might be outrageous (I haven\'t really read up on this issue that much, so I don\'t know of an outrageous case).
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

At least Sony won, just like 20 years ago when they were sued for making a VCR(they won of course), but Sony never loses.  Now if this little Napster issue could just be settle we\'d all be happy.
