Mario Advance = Super Mario Bros. 2?
« on: February 16, 2001, 08:14:50 PM »
I\'ve seen some screens and heard some rumors that Mario Advance is Super Mario Bros. 2, is this true, or a bunch of poppy squat?

Its 100% false.

Actually its true.:D Mario Advance will have the same style game play as Super Mario Bros 2. You can pick up and throw stuff out of the ground and you can also select 1 of 4 different characters(Luigi,Mario,Toad, and Princess).

Too bad it wasn\'t like Mario 3.:(:(:( :(:( That game was the bomb! The only platform game that was anywhere near as good as Mario was Super Mario Land for the SNES. Now that brings back memories...I think I\'ll go play that now.:)

Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 were great. And so was Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land for the Gameboy.

IMO Wario is seriously overshadowed by Mario and Luigi.
IMO WaLuigi is a crappy Wario rip off.
IMO Wario could kick WaLuigi\'s a$$
IMO Maybe I should shut up now.

I loved Mario 2--even though in Japan it wasn\'t even Mario 2. It was just changed over to Mario in the US for sells.

Actually Jumpman, according to the e-mail "Gameboy Advance Newsletter" it is a remake of the US version of Super Marion Brothers 2.

Here is the actual artical.

Japanese gamers were recently treated to the awesome news that a new Mario game is on the way for Game Boy Advance. While no U.S. release date has been announced for this title, we\'re optimistic that this promising Pak will make the trip stateside.

Remember Super Mario Bros. 2 for the original NES? Well it\'s back, and it\'s shaping up to be better than ever on Game Boy Advance. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad adventure through an incredible fantasy world on a quest to save the day, with little more than vegetables with which to defend themselves!

Before each stage, players can choose which character to control. Luigi can jump much higher than the other stars
Unlike other Mario games where Mario defeats enemies by jumping on their heads, in this game Mario and pals have to pick up items and hurl \'em at their adversaries. Even enemies can be picked up and tossed across the screen! Each character has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses, such as Princess Peach\'s ability to hover longer than any other character. New enemies and items are scattered everywhere, and as the screens here and on the next page eloquently attest, the graphics have never looked better.

As an added bonus, Mario Advance will also include a four-player game based on the original Mario Bros. game. Battle your friends to collect coins and kick Koopa Shells in this frenzied fight to come out on top. It\'s old-school gaming with a modern twist!

We\'ll provide much more information on Mario Advance as fresh news and screenshots become available.

Mario 2 is still the most trippiest game I\'ve played.  Remember that waterfall level where you had to drop down like 5-6 screens?  Such a difference from #1 and #3.

I actually bought the original game that was released in Japan before it turned into SMB2. It\'s called Doki Doki Panic. It was originally not a Mario game, but when the "real" sequel to Super Mario Brothers came out it was deemed too difficult for American gamers. So they took this game, changed it around and voila! SMB2 was born. This explains why it was so different and why many people do not like it. Check out the cover, different heroes same enemies.
