Learning how to drive
« on: February 27, 2001, 08:22:23 PM »
I really want to learn...but I failed the writing test twice already.  You guys know anywhere on-line where I can learn more stuff about how to take the writing test? (I\'m in NYC by the way)
I really hope that I don\'t fail the next time... :crying:

We-e-ll ypu could always pickup San Francisco Rush for the N64. Thats a pretty acurate driving simulator :D

Diddy kong racing is even better if you also want to learn how to fly a plane, or pilot a standard issue hovercraft.

But seriously I just passed it on my first try. (In Colorado). The questions weren\'t too hard if you study the little guide they give you,the only hard ones are the speed limits in the diffrent zones (residential, commerical) I just guessed on that part and I aced it.

I rememeber Sierra comming out with a Driving tutorial some time ago that you could even update with the specific highway laws of each state. You may want to look into buying that, or downloading the Abandonware version if the program isn\'t being sold anymore.

The best way to learn, is to just do it. Find a few buddies who know how to drive and go out to the country backroads and have them teach you. It won\'t help when answering questions like "You should signal ____ feet before making a turn", but couldn\'t hurt either.

Hahaha!  Funny wit! :nut:  But you forgot Panzer Dragoon.  Never know when you need to take the reigns of a fire-breathing flying dragon.

But lionken- the best way to pass the writing test is to simply study the instructional driving book that is available at the DMV.

I say just keep reading the Driving Rule Book(Its been so long, I forgot what it is called). Try to focus on the stuff that you got wrong on the written test. It shouldn\'t take long for you to have a general idea of mostly everything in the book.

BTW, Don\'t feel bad. A friend of mine failed the written test 6 TIMES?!?!?! And if that wasn\'t enough 2 months after he got his license it was revoked because he didn\'t pay 4 speeding tickets. What an idiot. Did I mention that he is 24 years old? :D

I was supposed to get my license in August but I still haven\'t.
The written exam here in Iceland is very hard. There are a number of questions. You can\'t have more than 7 incorrect. But for one question you can get 3 errors and over the  whole exam you cant get over 90 errors.
They made the chief of police in Icalands capital take it and he failed miseraply....he still drives though

In Arkansas, there is a book given by the DMV which the written test is taken exactly from.  Know these:
  • Stopping Distances
  • Road signs by their shape
Get those down and you should be fine.

It\'s quite hard here in Denmark too. You can only have 5 incorrect answers. I got it the first time (same with the driving test). :)
