Famitsu has released a chart of the weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week of February 19 to February 25 :

Console / Hardware sales
 
PlayStation 2 - 38,916
Dreamcast - 6,359
PSone - 4,316  
Nintendo 64 - 1,467

Yeah. Consoles aren\'t doing to well in Japan. Put PS2 will have the biggest market share in the land of the rising sun (that\'s Japan)

Don\'t expect Sony to dominate like in Japan after March. GBA is coming and it already has over 3 million pre-orders in Japan. Expect the number 1 position to change.

Sorry jumpman but handhelds don\'t count when we\'re talking consoles

Handhelds are something completely different, and I would expect GBA to sell hard and fast especially at launch the same as GC and Xbox

Well the Japanese seem to think other wise because NEOGEO, WS, and GBC are considered consoles(or hardware). If they\'re in there then GBA should be in there as well, and it will be number 1 for a long time.

Well I don;t agree handhelds are childrens toys.. and not hardcore hardware

there 2 very different areas. GBA WS or any other handheld can fight each other for the Handheld crown, but no way do you compare GBA to GC, Xbox DC or PS2. There very uncomparable

Ddaryl I agree with that, handhelds are nothing but children\'s toys and should not be considered hardware on any list.  If they do want to add this children\'s toy on the list, it would indeed be number 1.

IMAO, children don\'t pre-order...and their parents don\'t either...

Look in ConsoleDebating or Off-Topic and try and find the one where someone asks "who is getting GBA". You\'d be surprised to find out who said I will...

I could care less, Handhelds are childrens toys. I have no use for a handheld cause when I leave the house I actually interact with a real enviroment and talk with human beings not NPC\'s.

Hanhelds are for keeping kids quiet in the car while mommy and daddy drive

BUT under 0 circumstances should handheld sales be compared to Console sales.

It doesn\'t matter what they are. GBA is getting a great libary of games that will attract the hardcore gamer. Respected PSX2Central members like Ryu and LIC have already said they would buy one.

Again, kids don\'t pre-order. Go tell the 3 million Japanese people who pre-ordered the damn thing that your going to buy a child\'s toy. You\'ll probably end up getting flamed by 2.7 million people who are over the age of 14.

Ok 1st of all I\'m not going to argue with you, nor will I change my atitude about it. Maybe when you are 20+ years old you will understand, or maybe not

2nd of all if you do not know what seperates a handheld from a console then obviously you are clueless.

(Hint: Handhelds use last generation technologies, and don\'t compare power wise to consoles and cost considerably less)
