True the control scheme offered in the RE series can be a love it or hate it issue for players, but consider this (humor me here, I\'m asking you to *like* why I like playing games with this control scheme
) :
The stick that controls your character (or the D-pad if you desire) *can* allow you to be more IN the game -- rather than simply being a passive observer. When you press left, your character turns TO HIS/HER LEFT
perfectly in relation to their body and for me, this makes perfect sense. Pressing UP is NOT necessarily "forward", B-U-T if your character is facing [to the] left and you press UP the character moves forward.
Think of it this way...the stick or the D-pad *IS* the character...standing on your gamepad and as though facing away from you (towards your TV). So, pressing LEFT turns the character left (regardless of the spatial direction the character is facing on-screen...the character moves left). Press UP (think of it as forward considering the "standing on your gamepad analogy" I just mentioned) and the character moves forward. Add holding a button down while pressing UP and your character runs forward (rather than walking forward) Press DOWN (think to yourself "backwards") and the character begins to back up. Etc., etc.
If you can get yourself to see the D-stick/pad as a literal representation of the character, it can in fact become quite intuitive when moving through the game. Again, humbly, this information -- while perhaps confusing to believe if you\'ve never even tried the RE series -- should prove to offer assistance if you\'ve previously been on the "hate it" side of this control scheme...but possibly never thought of considering the scheme from this point of view.
