Hi everyone, I could use some technical help regarding the S-Video cable

BTW, this is my first post. I have been reading these forums since the launch, I have gotten plenty of good advice after weeding out the bickering

I got my PS2 about 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine, games & DVD\'s, no problems. Then I bought an S-Video cable....

I have my PS2 connected directly to my TV which is a Sony 27" Trinitron. When I added the S-Video cable I get bad DVD playback. The games run fine but the DVD causes the screen to flick back and forth between the movie and a black screen, kind of like constantly pressing the \'TV/Video\' button on the remote. This isn\'t the same through the whole movie though, it comes and goes in waves. I have tried 3 different S-Video cables and get the same problem. I have tried everything I know;

-unplugging and restarting the TV & PS2
-Calling the PS2 hotline (they have no clue about the problem)
-Several DVD\'s which are all brand new
-Checking my TV for any video settings-I didn\'t find any. I think all settings should naturally default when you plug in a S-Video cable.

My RCA cables work fine. I am just anal and want  slightly better video, after all it should work. I would hate to return a PS2 that works fine with the RCA cables, but dammit I bought a good TV so I could enjoy S-Video if I wanted to. Hopefully I won\'t have to return it though.

is yer tv set to recieve the svideo input?

I\'m not sure. I would assume so. I checked the manual and the TV menu and I couldn\'t find anything blatant.

there will be a very specific button or menu option to recieve svideo input.

on my tv, its a button labled "input" on the remote

Try unplugging every other input into your sony tv and then connect just the ps2 with your s-video conector
I had a similar problem while having more than one accesory plugged into my tv........eg: video & ps2
And no i didnt have the ps2 connected into the video ........i have 2 video inputs on the back of my tv
I use to get a flickering screen like the tv lost its vertical hold ....... by unplugging the video when i play the ps2 my dvd\'s work fine
It had no problem with games faulting while the video was connected but dvd\'s played up big time
So give it a try .........if it doesnt help then try a different s-video cable .....maybe a friends or try checking the connection on the back of the tv for a faulty connection

The flickering sounds like the Macrovisions Copyprotection... but it shouln´t appear on your TV, because you connect the PS2 directly to the TV - it only appears by a connection PS2 > VCR > TV !!!
This sounds like a TV probl. not a PS2 one...
As mentioned above try every button and connect nothing else but the PS2 to check !

Yep, the EYE is right. It\'s a tv problem.  I have a Sony 20\' 20v80 Trinitron tv with a PSone S-Video cable and it is fine with my Playstation 2.

I think you guys are right...TV problem. I brought my PS2 to work today to try it on another Sony and it worked fine. Although I only had the PS2 plugged in and nothing else. I noticed that when I turned on the TV the screen read \'S-Video\' meaning that it read the connection. I never saw this on my TV, crap my TV is only a little over a year old!! I will try unplugging everything else from my TV to see if it helps. If it doesn\'t what do you think I should do?

I believe I already lost the warranty. What is the best way to go about this customer service wise? I think Sony should fix the TV for free since it seems to have a bad S-Video port. I don\'t know how I can go about this without having to pay $$.

well thats strange, i have a 27" trinitron as well hooked up to my PS2 with game link 300 S video cable, and i have 0 problems, i used to have it hooked up to a 27" wega but it was in my parents room, i wanted it in my room. it felt safer there, so my dad wouldnt play it at night when i slept lol

Do you have any other components hooked up to your TV? Do you see the words \'S-Video\' appear on your TV screen when you turn it on?

I have tried the PlayStation S-Video cable, MacCatz S-Video cable, and one other. Arrrgh, this is a pain in the arse!

Do you live in San Jose, maybe you could check out my setup...lol.

when i turn it on i switch it to "Video 1" where the S-video is, i have nothing else connected to my tv besides the cable, and my stereo,  thats it, and no i dont live in san jose, but if i did, i would invite you over to my house to check out ym setup, and kick it lol , i think its your tv, when i do playback, i have no probs, no flickering just smooth playback, check your connections, undo your connectons and re connect them, im sure you have doen this several times already, hmmmm i dont know what to say.

Oh well, I will just keep trying different combinations of things to see if I get lucky. Thanks anyway unkown.
