New surprise with DVD player : Parental Stuff
« on: March 08, 2001, 02:53:44 AM »
Just to inform you guys about DVD :

Yesterday something new happened to me. I wanted to watch Scarface bonuses, put it on and then I got
this message :

"Parental setting blablabla....do you want to set it to level 7?"
Ok, yes
"Please enter the code for parental setting"
What what what? (cancel)
"You are not allowed to view this movie, please eject the disk"
What the F#^{????????

Ok, so with some DVDs, even it you didnt set that parental stuff, PS2 may ask you the code.

Here\'s the trick : Press Select, then choose Settings, then parental stuff.
PS2 will say you you have not entered any code, you can set one.
I chosed 1234 as a code, confirmed it, then entered it when Scarface asked me for, and it was OK, I was able
to view the movie.

And if you forget a code you already set, you\'re supposed to find an universal code to unlock it in your
instruction manual (i didnt find it personnaly, but I didnt search very well as I bypassed the problem)
Information is not knowledge

Are you insane! I love her character, she stays.
\"The only thing loves done is put you in this position, I say kill her off!\"
Yeah, but you say a lot of things..

So, how do you turn it off. I had heard somewhere on here there was not way to do it and I had to go through putting in the password for every restricted dvd. I\'ve poked around the system config and didn\'t see an option to turn off the passcode prompt.

when you are watching the dvd, just select the menu, and im not sure which one is the parental lock, im pretty sure it\'s in settigns, with all the screen side stuff "wide screen,16:9, you know that stuff" then it will ask what setting you wan put it on, level5, level6, level7, etc., just  pic off, its that easy, read the manual if your still stuck :)

After you turn it off (the parental control feature) make sure to eject the disk before you hit reset or the power switch. This will save your settings so you never have to see that lame feature again.

If any other console ever comes with this option they need to publish a huge, easily-read manual explaining how to use the features. I don\'t know how many times I\'ve seen questions about this issue come up. What\'s really amazing is that everything you need to know about it is in the guide. The first time the parental lock tried to shut me out I spent a good 5 minutes checking the manual, figured out how to shut it off, and haven\'t had a problem since. Now I\'m not trying to rag on anyone, but I think this should be a sign to all other companies that they need to make their instructions a little easier to read. That or make the option menus more user-friendly.
