Hi,

You may have read in a previous post that i had trouble with the PS2 display being pushed to the left slighty leaving a black bar down the right side of the TV screen and also it can cut off pieces of text in games.

Its only about 1 cm lost on the right, and then you lose 1cm of the picture at the left, making about 2 cms lost in total.

My questions are this...

A) I\'ve heard this is a commen problem, infact everyone might suffer from it and just not so picky as me. Do you have your screen slightly to the left when playing games (DVDs are fine) ? (Also what TV mode are you, PAL / NTSC as it could be different on NTSC).

B) Have you tired getting a replacement PS2 ?

Basically I am happy with my PS2, it works fully except for this little problem. If this little problem is more of a design flaw than a bug them im happy to keep the console rather than swap it and run the risk of getting a ps2 that wont load games, scratches discs, have lip sync problems etc. If this problem is a bug and thus shouldn\'t happen then i will go through with the swap as the PS2 is an expensive piece of equitment to accept a bugged console.

THANKS FOR READING.

Please reply and lets see how common this problem is.

Rich

Do you know what i have got a game running right now,and i have just looked at the screen and mine does the same,i have never noticed it before, and my machine is a PAL machine.
I am going to read the manual tonight,in some games you can move the screen, have alook in the options, for the games and see if you can move it.
On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.
But on the 16 of March i realised i couldn\'t ever say bye to you guys, so i am staying here for good!

I have a flat screen 24" WEGA, and it shows up evenly on both sides... I think the problem is ajustable... try switching to a monitor...

Yes I have noticed it too. I have a PAL PS2 and I noticed the centering problem as soon as I booted up the demo disc that came in the box.

I have only noticed it when running through composite video, in s-video there is no problem but there maybe a solution if this doesn`t work.

Most newer televisions usually have a built-in service mode in which you can adjust the image position and size. Accessing this function is different across brands and usually involves inputting a button sequence on your televisions remote.

If you have a friend that is a TV repairman you maybe could get the service manuals for you particular brand, hell even if you just ask a service guy nice anough you could get a copy. But you should only do this if your absolutely desperate, screwing around with your tv`s internal settings can yeild some very undesirable results.

So it seems so far that this problem is very common infact maybe all PAL Ps2s have this problem since BillyGunn never mentioned which TV Mode his PS2 uses.

This i suppose is good news as it means my PS2 is fine.

Interesting that Byatch says that his Ps2 doesn\'t do this when using an SVideo cable. That may be the way to fix this problem then.

Golden Grumpy: Yeah the problem is only present in games.

That means the only worries I have now about this issue is that the UK mag OPS2 said that they have never seen this problem when replying to someone in the Hardcore FAQ DVD section.

For anyone who hasn\'t answered this post keep the replies coming please :)

My american dreamcast and pal ps2 have the same problem.

On the dreamcast it is noticable on sides of the tv. Mostly on the right side. On the ps2 it was noticable also.

Madden 2001 pal is the worst, the picture shifts more over to the left and a border is left on the right.

I think its just the tv;s. As NFL2k was worse than another other dreamcast game, as madden 2001 is the worst ps2 game to do this.

OK,here`s a list of my experiences, screen problem indicated as "yes":

NTSC PS2  -          RGB:yes  /SVHS:no
NTSC Dreamcast - RGB:no
PAL PSone -          RGB:yes /SVHS:no

So I use S-VHS for my PS2,which is also because of the RGB vs. DVD problem.

I\'ve counted up the people i\'ve got replies from...

10 people expirence this problem.
3 people don\'t.

How can i explain the 3 people, well one has a really good TV which could centre itself, the other was a magazine which was talking about SVideo and therefore probably use SVideo cables and finally I take what the 3rd person says with a pinch of salt as the stats say otherwise.

Conclusion: The PS2 centering problem seems to be more of a design flaw (and thus normal - nothing to worry about), than a bug.

Im going to probably cancel my swap out with Sony later today.

Richard.

Thanks for replying.

my toshiba 32" TV owners manual says if i play video games on it it will leave a permanent image(same with the PIP and stock banners)....should i take this serious or something?...it\'s not a projction TV so i don\'t get it..

and i have that problem with the my DC PSX but not the N64...i hope the PS2 don\'t do that....i have s-video cables so i guess i won\'t.
. I\'ve said it before and I\'ll say it again, in terms of ingenuity, exclusivity, and console competition, X-Box brings nothing to the table except a fat wad of cash and some rehashed PC components wrapped with a DC controller and a plastic black box.----RYU
