Need good 1 player games (PS2 or PS1) & a good DVD remote
« on: March 12, 2001, 10:55:46 AM »
I am looking for a good 1 player games, I usually play my PS2 alone. I am not a big fan of Japanese animation, but I like games in the realm of Legend of Zelda, Quake I & II, and RPG. Any good 1 player PS2 games in the new releases this month or upcoming?

Also are there any new DVD remotes out that are fully functional. I don\'t wan\'t one that has few features, small distance radius, or where you have to hit the button several times to get it to work

Thanks dudes.

I have used the Mad Catz DVD remote (Wallmart for 19.99) and have not had any problems with it.  It works just as well as my regular remotes and it also doubles as a Limited Universal remote (which is the first one that has ever worked properly with my TV)

- Onimusha: Warlords is a 1 player game [Resident Evil type of game]
- Ring of Red is another 1 player game

there are NO new DVD remote releases..there are the same remotes since launch...Saitek, Mad Catz, Pelican, InterAct, Gen-X, Innovation, and more..if you looking for DVD remotes..go to http://www.ebworld.com or other online stores or go to you local gamestore and see what DVD remotes they have...different people have different opinions on DVD remotes, setups and functions

12 posts, huh?  I\'m gonna suppose you are posting then cuz you are either a "soon-to-be" owner or a recent owner of a PS2.  As such, [at least] my warning from considered personal experience is STAY AWAY from the SAITEK DVD controller.  I will go to the grave believing that unit ruined my 1st PS2.

Some advice?  Ask yourself if and how much you find that you use your VCR remote when playing video tapes.  Think about it.  Even if you DO find that you use it to pause now and then, ask yourself how far away the unit is from where you typically sit.  Lastly, ask yourself (depending on your previous answers) if you think you could get away with the "gamepad-stretched-across-the-floor" deal.  Why?  Well, you\'d have to answer that for yourself, but if you try the gamepad on a DVD movie, it is altogether possible that you will appreciate Sony\'s attempt to make it user-friendly (yes, ONCE you learn the buttons) -- they are fairly logical in their purposes.

MANY of the 3rd party DVD controllers were designed from the JAP PS2 version.  Surprisingly, when Sony designed the AM PS2 version, they SWITCHED *Stop* and *Play*.  That proved a major bummer for many owners of the controllers.  Now, have 3rd party controllers re-configed the more recent ones on the shelf?  Maybe...someone else would have to answer that...

Lastly, if you MUST have a DVD controller then I\'d suggest you wait for Sony\'s proprietary controller.  It is a general consensus that Sony\'s controller will prove to be the absolute best of the bunch.

Picture this: Dave finds an available seat for his \"Aggressive Drivers Anonymous\" encounter group session.   Saying, \"Hello\" he sits amongst his support group of S2K owners...  Smiling, they rock ever-so-gently to and fro in their chairs...humming peacefully...drinking coffee...and rolling little AutoArt & Maisto S2000s across their knees.  At this moment, the group responds in unison, \"Hi, w1ngman!\" :D

Thanks for the help guys, and for the welcome w1ngman. I recently got my PS2 about 2 weeks ago, it is the first game console I have ever bought. Never considered myself a gamer, but this looked like a good deal since I was also looking for a DVD.

Anyway, I have considered using the controller. I have noticed that it is not hard to memorize the buttons, and most of the features you want are there. Except I haven\'t been able to fast forward at 8X. The controller is a few feet short from the couch, and I would rather not have the cord stretching across the room. I guess I may wait a while longer for the Sony remote, if not, $20 bucks isn\'t too much for a temporary controller. Just need to make sure it won\'t damage my console.
