I think some of you forget that the PS2\'s emotion engine is much better than a p3-750. The PC\'s only way of surviving is due to the new vid cards that come out. While the PS2\'s GPU might have to be tinkered with, the cpu should have no problem with Giants.

well jm

to be honest the PSw is capable of anything the latest PC hardware does it just needs to be coded in a whole diffreent matter

BUT

I have reason to suspect these latest screens to be upgraded PC versions. DR UK has a bad habit of yanking peoples chains

Here is the upgraded PS2 version of Kabuto

Here is the original PC version of Kabuto

and here\'s the comparison screen fron DR UK\'s website

What do all of you think, is it PS2 Kabuto or is it upgraded PC version Kabuto

The main difference between the 2 pictures is that the first has less lighting than the 2nd one. And maybe a few extra details.

Well the PS.2 version of Kabuto looks more reptilian than the PC version.

That game can play as pretty as it wants it to be. Just don\'t be crying when you play at 10fps. One thing that stands out, the PS2 version maybe uses 4 lights, verses the PC\'s 16 lights. Difference? Check the pictures, lights play a huge difference on how textures are presented and what colors it displayed. Lights add deapth to character. Sure, more poly\'s means more detailed character, which I believe PS2 can handle quite well. But realtime lighting or even adding lights will definally strain the emotion engine. I don\'t care how good of a programmer you are, lights really take a toll on performance. Its something non-avoidable.

But I admitt, those PS2 screens look mighty nice. Until I see some action movies of the game 75%-85% done, I will make final judgement.

jm - Solution: Prelight the map, that is send the map with all the information of where the light hits, where the shadows are cast for the terrain all in the one package, that way you take all the strain away from working on properly lighting the terrain and can concentrate on just lighting the models within in. Have a look at the screenshots for Dropship (and perhaps StarWars:Starfighter?) and youll notice that the mountains cast shadows in some shots.

edit: by the way you might want to make sure you have transform and lighting (T&L) selected in the graphics options menu, Id be suprised if your PC has difficulty running it if my p2-400 with a Geforce (@ 800x600x32) can run it quite reasonably.

I\'m not using a GeForce 2. I\'m just refering to what the reviews are saying. Giants is a very complex game. I was refering my posts to THOSE screenshots. They appear to be using the settings such as 1024x768x32 w/ FSAA, lightmap, and trilinear filtering. No way in hell is that gonna run at 60fps on a GeForce 2 without a P3 800.

Even on a p3-800 w/a GeForce 2 the game won\'t run @ 60fps.

I\'m running it on an Athlon GHZ w/a GeForce 2 (GTS/PRO) 64MB DDR.. and it\'s not always 60..

And for the record, I believe the PS2 has superior lighting compared to a PC. While the GeForce 2 might have more light sources, no game on PC has lighting that looks like the PS2. And I\'ve played *all* the next-gen PC games..

Hmm, we are in the era of GeForce 3\'s now. They are far superior to Geforce 2\'s!! Quake 3 has a ton of lighting.
