The getaway - everything you want to know and more
« on: March 27, 2001, 04:20:14 AM »
go here  for full details including story on team sohos upcoming game the getaway
http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20010322/coates_01.htm
This is the recreated map of london made for the getaway with some specs for you to realize how ambitious this game really is

Quote
Graphically - the above map shows all of the roads included in the game, each square is a development grid cell and measures 250m x 250m.

By Distance - over 110Km (70 miles) of drivable roads have been accurately recreated from Ordinance Survey map data.

By Area - the free roaming map is spread over 50 square kilometers (20 square miles) or 5000 hectares (12350 acres) of central London.

By Time - breaking all speed limits and running every red light it takes over 15minutes to travel between the furthest points east and west.

By Resource - the cityscape alone will take 10 full time artists over 2 years to build, 50% more than the total number of artists on the whole Playstation 1 version.

By Geography - from the far edge of Hyde Park in the west to Shoreditch & Bethnal Green in the east. From the Angel in the north to Lambeth Bridge in the South.

For the locals - and finally, for any Londoners out there, the map covers an area close to what you get when you buy a "Zone 1" travel card.

well there you have it folks, visit the above url for more details !!!
It is my opinion that this is going to be a game that totally defines next gen, by having a top notch story, amazing graphics , and by blending the lines between genres

yeah, but i am still worryed about the gameplay value of this game, but hey if they have spent all that time and effort getting the geography right, then i must be a good thing.

I\'m really interested about this game!

This is a hybrid of Driver, GTA and Midtown Madness... now wich combination could top this? Plus amazing graphics and London made reality in this game...

I want mpegs! Thank you, Mike and ooseven, for posting this great news-bit.

They\'re really going into insane detail with this game... the thought of being able to walk in to the GAP I visited while in London, pulling out a pistol and seeing all the innocent civilians run in panic is exhilarating... heehee.

Such an ambitious project could fall so hard though...

Eagerly waiting for more info.

Yeah June 2002

SoHo has already said they are in no hurry to get this game out and its targeted for a Xmas 2001 release, but they said don\'t count on it

This game IMO won\'t be out till Xmas 2002
, so much is going into it that to release it early wouldn\'t be prudent

well the fear is always there, but from what I\'ve read studio SoHo is seriously striving to put there comapny on the charts as one of the premiere game makers in the business. If they  are serious then they won\'t be producing no Bouncers

Just reading the article will have you r head swimming with what and how they are going about making this epic
