Star Wars Starfighter problems

I\'ve asked this before, but now that I have actually purchased the game, I\'m even angrier!  I rented the game and once I got to level 3, the game started to lock up.  Other people are apparantly having this problem and I have heard that there are "defective" discs circulating.  I figured I would take my chances and buy the game and guess what?  It locks up!  I emailed Lucasarts and they said that it is a "rare problem with some PS2 systems" and there is no fix for it.  They did offer to send me a new shrink wrapped copy so that I could take mine back, but that doesn\'t solve the problem.  I have played just about every other PS2 game on the market and have had no problems.  I have a bunch of PS1 games that I play and have no problems.  It would seem to me that there is a problem with the game, not my PS2 system.  Any one else experiencing this or any other similar problem?

On my disk the action will sometimes stutter.  It\'s not your typical slowdown problem. Although it\'s never locked up on me, it\'s still pretty annoying.

yep that game has its bugs all right, i had the lock up problem as well as the scarab problem, he would get so high up in the sky that i coulnt shoot him and i couuldnt complete my mission > so i returned it and then got a new disk, i didnt have that problem anymore and it only stuttered, if you think its that bad, then get your money back cause the gltches are there and you cant do anything about it

I\'ve had 2 or 3 games lock up maybe once a piece, but higher quality software like Onimusha, ZOE and others never lock.

I think I had one incident with a lock up on Starfighter, but overall ran pretty good, minus the occasional stutter and scarab bug thats a code glitch
