PS2 on-line press release.
« on: April 01, 2001, 02:33:11 PM »
Tokyo.japan(SONY) corp today announced it\'s plan for their revolutionary PS2 computer entertainment system regarding on-line gaming and other on-line entertainment.  The PS2 is going to let gamers either use a analog modem via USB port or use the ethernet adapter for broadband access, with this they will log on to sony\'s on-line gaming service that is similar to Sega corp "seganet" but much more attractive and easier to use.

According to SCEI, the network will feature their new state-of-the-art network solutions kept secret until today. "I belive SCEI has an unbeatable network" said Ken Kutaragi CEO of SCEI "We are about to give gamers across the world something very different, so different that the word revolutionary is not strong enough to describe". These words were eclipsed by the following: "PS2 on-line is going to change the world...the world of gaming".

The company said that PS2 will let gamers attach a digital camera to their Playstation2 and actully watch the other players play or chat with them while watching them, it is expected to be available in all markets by this fall. "This is something that not even the PC has available yet...which can explain xbox" said US-based analyst Charles winchester the III from bloomberg.

This service is expected to need broadband access.

SCEI also told reporters that the HDD for PS2 will be highly affordable for the average gamer. "i belive the price of $50 for this neccessary gaming component is quite attractive and fair" said Ken kutaragi "we will have games that will use this device to it\'s fullest by this fall for the american market" continued Kutaragi.

The executives in the conference also said that gamers will be able to download movies and music for a price of 5 dollars per-download. "movies such as crounching tiger hidden dragon, The matrix, Starwars Episode I, Terminator2 will be available for download this fall" said tokomo yamuchi PR executive for SCEI, "movies for all ages, male, females will be available"

The Playstation2 this fall will have 10 on-line games...only 2 were announced..Half-life along with Madden2002...the details about these games were not unveiled but we were told that Half-life will include the popular PC mod..Counter-stirke...

SONY also has some of their own on-line games in the works and hopes to have 3 out by this fall.

"We belive with this service gamers will choice Playstation2 as their only entertainment source" Kutargi told the attendees.

Reporter, kevin james.

Guys, this came off the wires just now and their will be a link soon.

what do you think?
. I\'ve said it before and I\'ll say it again, in terms of ingenuity, exclusivity, and console competition, X-Box brings nothing to the table except a fat wad of cash and some rehashed PC components wrapped with a DC controller and a plastic black box.----RYU

Looks like Sony has softened its stance on 56K. Obviously BB is a generation away from mainstream.

Looking forward to online gaming

I plan on talking to Bjorn soon about an invitation only forum for PSX2central\'s online team.

Probably after E3\'s official announcements the regulars get together and discuss how we will handle it.

Easier to use than Sega.Net? Obviously anyone who had trouble was a moron...

I\'m not impressed really. There isnt many details other than mentioning what we knew, that there will be online games by fall, and they will have modems.... ooooh! I\'m floored! \'I believe the price of $50...\' (for the HDD)... are you sure Mr. Kutaragi? Please consult with someone WHO KNOWS!

Sorry, but I only buy peripherals/addons that are neccessary for some games (Dual Shock for Ape Escape, Sega CD for Sega CD games, etc.) I love Sega, but would not have bought a modem seperately. PS2 will have to do better than a neanderthal sport title, and an old PC port.

As always, I\'ll be thier to pick up the everything I can.  Hopefully I can just get an adapter for my Cable Modem to hook it up to the USB ports. The hard drive and Camera are also a must have.

Ethugg, I usually agree with the things you say, but this time I must disagree.
50 Dollars is an amazing price for what you are getting.
You are getting a broadband modem and a (I think) 20 gig HD for 50 bucks.
Thats a great price.
You can get it for the price of the game.
Sony would sell even more if they included any kind of game with it, to justify the cost even more.

Hopefully this isnt some April Fools joke.
This was very proffesional sounding, and if it is true, I think it will enable Sony to launch a very succesful add-on.

No, just the HDD, not the modem, is \'maybe\' $50. Thats part of the reason I\'m not impressed. Not too many real details...

I want each and every one of you to RUN OUT AND HEAD TO YOUR CLOSEST PLACE OF WORSHIP!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE APOCALYPSE!!!!!! THE WORLD IS COMING TO AND END!!!!!!!!!!!

N-Player actually made a post that did not bash XBOX in any way.

*GASP*

(Was that a pig that just flew past my window?)
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

ok, if you notice what Nplayer really wrote was..."i belive the price of $50 for this neccessary gaming component is quite attractive and fair"

meaning, you took it out of context...i believe that price is fair, is all he was saying (nplayer) not, i believe the price will be around $50

...ok ive had my say

Ok N-Player that was just evil. Out of all the April Fools jokes I\'ve seen today(and thats alot, 6 on this forum alone) this has to be the worst. You got our hopes up, and not just about anything, you lied to us about the one thing that we all meet here to talk about, the PS2.

For this act alone you deserve to keep your Troll pic for a whole lot longer.

Now run along, little Troll, go to your mommy.

P.S.
