Xbox Problems???
« on: April 09, 2001, 01:40:32 AM »
I am sure everyone read what Hideo Kojima had to say about the Xbox.

For those who hasn\'t: "I don’t think that Xbox is that much better than PlayStation 2. Other than little improvements in graphics, I don’t expect much difference.” .... http://www.ign.com

It gets better!!

Now, a ex employee of Microsoft had a article published: "Xbox: A Business Strategy Gone Wrong "

Check it out:

http://www.osopinion.com/perl/story/8746.html

Shame,  looks like Xbox fans have themselves some problems......hang on?..... weren\'t they the ones nailing the PS2?

Looks like the wheel is turing.

thanks for the link :D.

Very intresting both articles could be just plain Bias against the X box, or they could just be the Truth.

but i must say that seeing a Ex Microsoft Employee Bashing MS gives me a warm nice lowing fealing inside.
:D.

Also the title is kind of nice too .........

Kojima Has Mixed Emotions Towards Xbox

Metal Gear\'s main man says it has the power, but wonders if it will make a difference.

maybe that will start to settle the agrument over MGX.

I think Hideo is telling the truth!
Just think about it!

Has anything you\'ve seen on the Xbox really impressed you??

Hideo is da man! He wouldnt lie. And he\'s not the only one who\'s sceptical against Xbox.

i wonder what all the fanboys will make of this ?

after weeks of them saying that "ha ha Metal Gear is comming to the X Box and it will be 3 times better than MGS2 "

the poor trolls must be hanging themselfs right now over that one .

I believe every word that hideo says. I doubt that xbox can really do those 125 (with texture and lights) but how about with AI, complicated physics, fog and all other effects. Sound more like 80-100 to me! :)

Kojima was telling the truth.  GeForce3 SDK\'s are a little more powerful than the PS2 (about twice as powerful).  He was just confirming what Xbox fans already knew: 50% of an Xbox is just slightly more powerful than the PS2.  However, the good thing for us Xbox fans is that the Xbox won\'t have a GeForce3 under the hood, but a chip twice as powerful as the GeForce3.  So if the GF3 is twice as powerful as a PS2 and the XGPU is a step above the GF3 then the final Xboxes should be 3 times more powerful than the PS2.  :p  You know, I thought that maybe Kojima was talking about the actual Xboxes but then I came to my senses and realized that he couldn\'t have been because no one has final Xbox hardware.

You don\'t think Kojima would have opinions about something he doesn\'t have.  For example:  What if I said, "Final Fantasy X will suck because I didn\'t like IX!"  Well, being the astute gamers you are, you would reply to me by saying, "How can you say that, you\'ve never played FFX!"  And I would feel dejected and leave.  So I doubt that Kojima would make opinions about something he has no knowledge of.  He\'s just a producer.  That\'s like asking Spielberg about the technology used in Jurrassic Park 3.  He might have SOME idea of it, but you\'d do better by talking to the lead technology engineer.

So if I were a fanboy I would say, "Kojima admits that PS2 is much weaker than the Xbox!"  Why?  Well, because he admitted that Alpha2 XDK\'s were more powerul than a PS2.  Common sense would tell you that the XGPU is twice as powerful as a GF3 so it\'s right to conclude that Xbox is three times more powerful than PS2.  Logic and commonsense folks.  Oh, and another thing:

Quote

I can\'t tell you what specific enhancements will be made. As for the Xbox, I think its expressive power is considerable, perhaps greater than the PS2\'s.

In other words, Kojima said that Xbox was more powerful to a large extent or SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than PS2.  So, you can do one of two things:  Either admit that Kojima was contradicting himself or admit that Kojima was saying that the Xbox is much more powerful than the PS2.  Niether choice may be desirable to you, but those are the only two that exist.  The lesson to be learned from this?  Don\'t put too much stock into quotes.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

There was another guy on the DOA2 forums saying he works for Microsoft and that the X has overheating problems.  This could be true and what you say could be true, but we have to realize that this probably isn\'t the final version.

On the other hand, in the worst case scenario, both guys are right and Microsoft has once again screwed over customers.  Just a thought.

I haven\'t seen much that has impressed me on the PS2 either. Don\'t forget the PS2 has hardly been as revolutionary as promised.

No next gen console so far has lived up to the hype.
It\'s the most understandeble with the PS.2 because of the steep learning curve.
But Halo does look good,that\'s the only game that has really impressed me on the X-Box

since you feel free to go and use a dictionary so will i:

ok lets look at the quote again and show something else thats apparent:

you stated he claimed that it was more powerful - but when he states he phrase :"power is considerable" - he does not say to PS2 - he just implies that the Xbox has a good amount of power - yet he says Perhaps when comparing power of PS2 to Xbox and he states thet IT MAY BE more powerful - so he is not even sure of it being as powerful as the PS2

there i can use a dictionary too

perhaps \\Per*haps"\\,
adv.
By chance; peradventure; perchance; it may be.

A little presumptous aren\'t we? Keep in mind that E3 hasn\'t come yet, and most of all, PS2 is the only next gen console right now and it sure as hell isn\'t living up to anyone\'s expectations (including Sony\'s).  Xbox and GC aren\'t even out yet, so how can you say that they haven\'t lived up to the hype?  You gotta be kidding me.  Until you see ACTUAL games (not tech demos and half baked games) on FINAL hardware, you can\'t come to a conclusion.  Keep in mind that seven months before the PS2 launch, Sony didn\'t have sh!t to show. Plus the stuff they showed was either utter crap or tech demos.

I\'ll end on this note:  If you think the stuff at GameStock was a disappointment, at least the games had an excuse.  They were VERY early and were running on 50% dev kits.  However, if we look at NFL Game Day 2001 for the PS2...there\'s just no excuse.  It was a first party game, it didn\'t make launch so the devs had time, and finally the devs had final PS2 dev kits.  Now if that isn\'t a dissapointment, I don\'t know what is.  So, before you go off spouting bullsh!t, realize that GC and Xbox have a long ways to go before they are released.  Contentwise PS2 can\'t hang with the Dreamcast.  Hype is a b!tch and Microsoft has plenty of it up their sleeves too.

no i am saying that you should ig too into a quote - especially one that has nothing stated outright

hideo wouldn\'t say anything bad about PS2 or Xbox in the first place as he and Konami have games going to each system and that they need thos games to sell - so by saying one is better would hurt the others sales

But from the quote i think that Hideo is saying the Xbox is a very powerful machine and that he thinks the PS2 is too - in alomost no way does he even compare the two directly in the quote
