Yet Another PS2 DVD remote question
« on: April 12, 2001, 08:23:42 AM »
Hello,

This is my first post(obviously).  Here\'s the question:  I\'ve been looking for a PS2 remote.  I know that there is a new one made by Zenith.  It has a pass through controller port.  This is a must for what I\'m looking for.  To my knowledge, this only leaves a selection of four remotes:  Pelican, Saitek, Nyco, and the Zenith(let me know if I\'m missing one).  I have already read several posts concerning these DVD remotes and I have referenced other sites to check each one\'s features.  They all state that they have "all the basic DVD controls" but I have yet to find out if they can perform the MOST BASIC control of all...Powering the console ON and OFF!  Can anyone answer this for me?  Someone here HAS to know!

It doesn\'t matter what it looks like since a plan to "teach" my SONY AV2100 UNIVERSAL REMOTE its functions.  This universal remote, by the way, is A MUST for anyone who has a home theatre system and ends up having to use 4 or more remotes!  I would greatly appreciate any input on the ON/OFF question.  Thanks.

Anyone?......Hello?....
I thought my question would be really easy to answer.
Is that why no one has replied or is it just something that no one has ever given thought to?

No remote can turn the PS2 by itself on or off.  Nor even out of standby mode for that matter.  Remember the PS2 is a gaming machine first, and a DVD player second.  C\'mon, it\'s not that hard to go over and hit the machine out of standby is it? :)

As far as remotes go, I prefer the Saitek the best (so far)...

That\'s what I feared.
It\'s just disconcerting to have spent $110 on an awesome remote that is even capable of controlling air conditioning units yet still have to get off my a$$ to shut down the ps2.

My problem was this-- my DVD player and PS2 have their s-video wires running into a SINGLE S-video port on my TV via an S-video Y adapter.  Therefore, I can\'t have both sources on at the same time.  My remote has macro capabilities that would have made it possible to switch all components to their necessary settings (DSP power, TV video, dvd player power,& play commands) by pushing just ONE button!  Oh well...

Does anyone know if the Japanese SONY PS2 DVD remote will have this capability.  It sure looks like it\'s got a lot of buttons.  There\'s gotta be a STANDBY button on there or something!!!
