GT3 Completed; Network Version on the Horizon

At an event today at the Ebisu Garden Hall in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment and creator Polyphony Digital displayed the completed version of their long-awaited PlayStation 2 driving simulator, Gran Turismo 3 A-spec. As IGN suspected at the Tokyo Game Show, the game is done, and the April 28 release date in Japan is firm, meaning racing fans have less than two weeks to wait before they can get their hands on what should be the best racer around (phone your favorite importer).
Also part of the presentation was a short discussion of the future of Gran Turismo, the series that made Polyphony one of Sony\'s premier development teams. Producer Kazunori Yamauchi stated that the next step in GT\'s evolution will be a network version, allowing online competition via a service called "GTN." Seemingly similar to Square\'s plans for its PlayOnline service, GTN will include information and e-commerce features to accompany online racing.
Whether the next version of GT will be a network-upgraded GT3 or an entirely new game remains unclear. However, the prospect of online play against fellow racers is definitely something to look forward to. We\'ll have more news on GT3 when we pick up the finished version, as well as at E3 -- stay tuned.

Someone should create a sign-up list to get on the races, because they\'re going to be loaded. I know I\'ll be there!
