I used to think that I was the coolest kid because I had a Commodore 64. I still have it but it is collecting massive amounts of dust in the basement. I remember typing a 3 page paper in the 3rd(?) grade. Back then that was a long ass paper. I wish I got assignments for 3 page papers now. Nowadays it more like a minimum of 7, but I digress. I had a ton of fun playing on that giant keyboard. My first game was moon lander. I could play that ridiculously simple game all night long(or maybe a half hour).

hey Gohan remember the joy\'s of programming a full cheat code for yourself ?

in the UK C 64 mags had them writen and they where usually about 2 to 3 pages long.

I remember a 3 page one for Green Beret that gave you inlimited lifes and all the weapons.

well the joy came about a hour or so of typIng this code and saving it onto TAPE, and the excitement of trying it out for the first time :D.

and it was all your own work, none of this action reply rubbish we have now a days.

Attention all you Commodore 64 Dorks:

ATARI RULES!

Yeah you heard it right.  Back in the 80s I had an Atari 800XL, and it was far superior to any C64 junk I saw around the computer stores.  I still have all my original hardware.  A few years ago I went on Ebay and bought a couple backup Ataris, as well as all the peripherals I could never afford when I was in High School.

The coolest thing to do is make an SIO2PC cable.  You hook up your Atari to the serial port on your PC, and the whole PC emulates a floppy drive.  No need to find 5.25" double density floppies at the flea market, and you can back up all your old data any way you want.  They probably have something like this for C64s too.

Anyone want to break out the old 6502 assembly language programming books?

SOD THE C-64 - SPECTRUM 48K owns all!!

:) Actually, I really wanted a C-64, but we didn\'t have enough cash so I had to settle for a Speccy!

Green Beret and Jail Break were awesome games. My mate had a C-64 and I used to spend many an afternoon playing Emyln Hughes Football.

Anyone else here have a Spectrum and read Your Sinclair magazine?

Ah...trip down memory lane.

The first computer I owned was a Sinclair ZX-81.  NOT the US marketed Timex-Sinclair, but a genuine UK ZX-81 imported to the US.  Those were the days.  2K RAM... what more do you need?  Oh yeah, YOU NEED THE 16K RAM MODULE!

Later I had a Texas Instruments TI-99, and a Mattel Aquarius (remember those?)  In computer class at school we used Radio Shack TRS-80s, or "Trash-80s" as we called them.  I remember in my class EVERYONE played these dumb pre-"hack" graphic adventure games in class, instead of working on assignments.  One day the teacher walked around the room and pressed the reset button on every machine that was running a game.  How embarrasing.

When my friend got an Atari 400, oh man that was the greatest piece of equipment I had ever seen in my life.  We spent hours and hours typing in programs on that damn membrane keyboard.  When we could afford to upgrade to the 800XL then we really owned L337 machines.  For a little while they were even better than the best business PC you could buy.

One thing we always shared was a hatred for Commodore.  You\'ve got to admit that the custom graphics and sound chips on the Atari were far superior to Commodore\'s.  The Atari was ALWAYS better at handling independent sprites.  Games were almost always faster on an Atari than the C64 version.  It\'s just a fact man.

we could even start up the AMIGA 500 Vs ATARI ST computer war that dragged on for many a YEAR.

nather side liked the other version.

ST owners thought Amiga owners where idiots
Amiga owners thought ST owners sleept with small furry animals.

the arguments over which version of Dungon Master was better ?

the ST origional ?

or

the Amiga port ?

ah you can easily change that argument for PS2 vs X box

strange how somethings never change  .

Oh man, I loved my C64(s). And my brothers Amiga 500 with extra disk drive and memory expansion! Damn that machine kicked @ss! Seriously, I think the Amigas were excellent at the time - PC games got totally owned by the Amiga games. :)

C-64:

Big Mac - best soundtrack EVER[/i].
Spy hunter - ahh, the originator.
I played a few others, but boy inputting things took a long time with it\'s small amounts of memory.
FatalXception

Murphy\'s Law - What can go wrong, will.
Poker Law      - Magnum .44 beats four aces.
Cole\'s Law      - Thinly sliced cabbage.

But there\'s a difference, because I KNOW Amiga owners were idiots!! LOL j/k I had an Atari ST 1024 - what a machine, I spent days on end playing Kick Off, Kick Off 2 and Player Manager - three of the best sports games ever made.

The Atari ST had better sound capabilities (like that bloody mattered back then), but the Amiga had better graphics. Of course, I never would have admitted this 10 years ago when both were state of the art.

Of course, when Wing Commander 2 came out on the PC, it made both the Amiga and the ST look like kids toys.
