I heard progressive scan will be implemented (cause Xbox is gonna have it).  And if you don\'t know what progressive scan is then disregard this post :D

Well sorta, all ya have to do is buy a $30 remote and all the DVD  features open up

Not a bad marketing tactic IMO. Some people could careless for DVD and they\'ll pay less, others only have to buy the remote

I have one concern related to these drivers (and any future ones as well).  Let\'s face it.  The PS2 is a computer in soo many ways.  I love it, and I love that Bill Gates does not have that irrepressibly unstable windows operating system in it!!! ;)  However, its still a computer.  So when you upgrade a system with new drivers...what do you fall back to in the case of the PS2 in the event that the drivers "hose up" something else?  Not to say that Sony won\'t have tested the fart out of them before giving them to the end-user...but it could be a valid concern.  There is no backup...no way to restore to what you had before the updated drivers were installed, etc.

Curious...that\'s all...

I don\'t think so w1nman. So long as the hardware dosen\'t change, writing stable and dependable drivers for it shouldn\'t be a problem. The reason why PC drivers can be so frustrating is because their written to take a plethora of devices into account. With the PS2.. you only have ONE set of hardware to code for, which makes it substantially easier to test and impliment perfectly on everybody\'s machine.

The same holds true for the Xbox and any future driver updates they make. Sure it\'s running a Windows kernal on traditional PC hardware.. but it\'s a closed box and by having the variety of hardware whittled down to only one setup, bugs and incompatabilities should be non-existant.
