PlayStation 2 to be axed?? - from the ps2 newsgroup

An ex SONY Research and Development worker revealed the following information on what she saw within the department at Sony entertainmen.. Playstation2 is to be upgraded with a system doubling the frame rate to 120 frames per second and twice the power of almost everything insided the unit including the processor and texture memory etc; in order to compete with Microsoft\'s new console, the XBOX.. As always this you could be a fake but she certainly does make some astoundin points and maby if this was true XBOX would already have its tombstone prepared

Thats what the guy claimed, reckon there is any truth in it?

it sounds like another PS3 wanna be rumor

why would they do this in the first place - there would be too much money blown on the PS2 already to start a new system and release anytime soon - maybe in five years

I carnt see this being true,but put it this way if it is,then i am not buying it and i wont be buying another sony product agian,i dont buy something that is 300 pound 6 months old,for it to be put to one side for something new.
But as i said i carnt see this being true.

Why would SOny drop its own stock value again by dropping a solid profit making system in mid term


Its complete BS, what SOny is doing is R+D\'ing the PS3 for release in 2005 - 2006

Dunno why they\'de wanna do that... PS2 isn\'t exactly weak and in some aspects it can run circles around Xbox.

I am not debating, but for being so easy to program for, I have not been very impressed by it... even the tech demos were only okay in my oppinion, (except maybe Malice, which is still well within the PS2s capabilities).

XBox is only running at 50% or so.

We have to wait and see what the final NVidia Chipset really does. I fully expect XBox to be graphically better

This sound like that ps2 upgade chip we had a few months ago, LOL complete BS if you ask me

But nothing will change, It\'ll be just be more polygons, and more pc type effects... it won\'t be procedural texturing and all of the othe nifty PS2 stuff.  Besides, I wonder if PS2 has hit 50% yet?


But damnit, quit making me debate, I dun wanna.  I just think it is downright silly to call the PS2 underpowered.
