I haven\'t had that remote, but I had a very simmilar remote for my old VCR.  The worst thing are those buttons, the flat kind, with just a little bubble of plastic over the key.  On my old one, the buttons slowly stopped working, and they took a lot of pressure to use.

Toys R Us sells the Seiko remote.  I tried it when I first got my PS2 on Oct 26th.  Not sayin\' it caused it, but my dvd player on the PS2 started acting up (like many of the 1st PS2s apparently did)...mine however, didn\'t seem to act up until after playing a movie using the Seiko remote.  Again, can\'t put one & one together...but I can say I returned the Seiko and the PS2 (exchanged the PS2; didn\'t want another remote) and the 2nd PS2 has been terrific!

From what I\'ve heard, It seems that most of the 3rd party remotes are of poor quality and do not work that well. Daily Radar reviewed the Sony remote, which is presently only available in Japan, and gave it glowing reviews. If you are patient, wait for the official Sony remote to be released, which I presume is not that far off. I purchased the Pelican variety, which IMO is a POS, but cuts the mustard in the meantime.

I have the remote that comes with the newer model SCPH-18000. Haven\'t used it much since the second controller is connected to this port. Also, there seems to be no "on-off" button.

I have the Mad Catz remote and love it.  It looks and feels like a real remote, not a toy.  It will also give you control of your VCR and TV.  They are slightly hard to find but I got mine at WalMart and love it.  The buttons do not feel cheap like some other remotes.
