Your fave game glitches? (+ Zelda 64 veterans, help me!)
« on: May 13, 2001, 08:51:27 AM »
Yes, I\'m dedicating this thread to glitches found in games (or, actually I was just supposed to ask about this one Zelda glitch, but decided to make the thread more appealing by expanding the subject :p)

My fave game series, when it comes to different kinds of glitches is the Tomb Raider series. Three of my fave glitches :

1. The "freak-Lara" glitch in Tomb Raider 3 :

Play (or skip with a code) through the first section of the game and go to London (some guides have said that you\'re supposed to go to the desert, but London is the only place that worked for me). When there, find an enemy, lock onto it and run around so Lara turns her head to either side while aiming the guns. Pause the game when she\'s in this position and choose "Exit to Main Menu". Now load the training lever (Lara\'s home) and behold the grotesque freakiness of your new luvverly Lare. You can make her look even funnier by trying to take out her guns.

2. The "corner-teleport" glitch in Tomb Raider 3 :

Go near a corner and place Lara facing the corner at about 45 degrees. Move so that Lara\'s other foot is wedged inside the wall, duck, and get down on all fours; Lara should be partly inside the wall now, and once you release the duck-button you\'ll be majikally teleported to the very top of the corner piece; if there is a roof above you, Lara will teleported to the roof and will fall back down or get stuck up there (you can get some nice views by using this trick). Or, if there is a ledge above the corner you\'re abusing, you\'ll be teleported up to it (you can skip large portions of some levels like this).

3. The "hanging on thin air" glitch. This is found at least in TR4, and I\'m not sure if it works in the earlier ones :

This one I found myself :D It\'s quite easy; go stand a couple of paces away from a ledge high enough to grab and look around using the look-button. Look up or down (you can also tilt the direction to the left or right for different outcomes) and hold down the look-button while performing a forward somersault with "O". Now grab the ledge with "X" and Lara seems to be having some serious trouble with her motorics :p

Oops, still number got number 4. Weird, weird glitch in TR4 :

This one I don\'t know how to do, but it was funny as heck. I was on the train-level for the first time and accidentally almost jumped out of the train. Almost, luckily the door behind me was locked and I couldn\'t fall out (I thought it was open, hence the panic) and panicked and tried pressing all the buttons frantically to save my hiney. So, I didn\'t fall out, but after landing and recovering and putting away Lara\'s pistols, she kept on holding her left up, as she still had the other pistol! Her arm remained like this for the rest of the level, but about halfway through it started waving about like crazy. Lara looked funn when climbing ladders with one hand while the other one just swishswashed up\'n\'down.

TR3 and 4 had tons and tons and tons of more glitches too (I remember I ran into 5 different glitches in TR4 before the 4th level for crying out loud!). Tut tut Core...

____________________________________________

And now to that Zelda 64 part :

Has any of you tried out the groovy-sounding Epona glitches? You\'re supposed to fight Ganondorf and advance to the battle with Ganon, lose the Master Sword, save, load the game and resume gameplay with no weapon equipped. I tried doing this (lost the sword, saved) and I still had the sword equipped after loading the game. Does this glitch really work or is it just a big fat lie? There\'s nothing else in the game for me to see anymore and the subsequent glitches sound quite fun.

Moon Walking Monsters in Hero\'s Quest/Quest for Glory 1 original. I found this while fighting brigands near their fort. Simply walk as close as you can to the side of the screen and wait for a brigand to come walking by. When one does, he\'ll see you and try to chase you down and kill you. Wait until he\'s almost on top of you and then cast the calm spell, which will cause him to relax and cut off persuit for a few moments. Then just run to the other side of the screen. When the spell expires, instead of turning around to chase you as they normally would, they just moon-walk backwards towards you. It\'s kinda amusing for awhile and will work with all random monsters you come across.

Cool. I loved the Quest for Glory games. They were some of my old favourites

Heh, you should have been a part of that huge thread Me and Faithdies created about a month or so ago. Between the two of us we got that thread up to around almost 9 pages long just talking about QFG and old skool Sierra. That\'s gotta be a record of some kind. :D

Yeah, but you knew that was going to happen. Besides it\'s probably a good thing, since if I had stayed we\'d probably have the longest thread in this forums history. :) Anyhow, naw I haven\'t had much luck with the MMORPG\'s. Most all of them suck, and the ones that look like they might be half-way decent are still a good 6 months to 2 years away. I\'ll probably have a DC and PSO by the time my tax returns get here though, so no worries. I just hope Sega gets v0.2 out here in the states before I pick up a copy.

You\'re welcome to join up if ya want Vulcan, same goes for you Samwise.

There was a funny glitch in SSX. A friend of mine was over, and playing the game. He\'d played only once or twice beforehand, and watches how you play so when he does, he thinks he can beat you and say he\'s better. Irritating, but nontheless  he started playing... and had a respectable time in Snowdream. Anyhoo, JUST nearing the end he was heading to a jump to pull a trick, and stuffed it going of to the side, and landed on a rock....

For some crazy reason though, he went INSIDE the rock and got trapped... he just couldn\'t get out of there it was like a little prison... i COULD have informed him that pressing select would have gotten him out, but I was having WAY to much fun watching him bounce around in a rock  :D
Probably the earliest flyswatters were nothing more than some sort of striking surface attached to the end of a long stick.

Now that u mention it, there was a funny thing that happened when the starter of this thread & me were playing SSX. In Mercury city, near the end, The Incredible Hawkster jumped real high, and get this - he got stuck in the air! Like he was falling upside down. It was pretty weird, but it allowed him to perform pretty incredible tricks :p

F19 stealth fighter on amiga.
You could do full stop while flying when your plane started to stall, just fight against it until your speed is 0. with this trick its possible to land on the carrier, sideways. :)

Hehe Peltopukki - remember the quirky bugs in F/A-18? you could land the hornet upsidedown on the carrier if you took your time :)

But if there was any glitch which I thought added to a game it would have to be in Quake 2 with the physics exploit that let you strafe jump and do all those trick jumps.

wasn\'t F/A-18 the game where you could land on enemy submarine and fill your fuel tanks?

The Zelda glitch is real but you must have the collectors edition (gold cart) because they fixed it in the later carts.
